Founded in Des Moines in 1990, CICIL is one of six Centers for Independent Living (CILs) currently in operation within the state of Iowa. Our guiding principle at CICIL is the belief that people with disabilities should integrate fully into society, have equal opportunities and maintain control of their lives. CICIL works side-by-side with individuals - assisting each to achieve their personal goals in the following counties; Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Marion, Polk, Story, and Warren. CICIL advances the independent living philosophy through the provision of the following 5 Core Services: Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, Individual and Systems Advocacy, Peer Support, and Transition Services. CICIL recognizes the unique and unmet needs by offering advocacy, information and referral, employment, peer support, and transition services free of charge to each of our clients. When combined, these services meet the holistic needs of the person as well as the needs of their family rooted through independence, and supported through care. At CICIL we pride ourselves in the work we do and we look forward to new opportunities for partnerships and presentations. Come check out the Accessible Early Voting Site for voters of all abilities Tuesday, October 20th from 10 AM to 4 PM!
Accessible voting machines and Polk County Auditor staff will be available for assisting voters to cast their vote independently. This is open to all voters in Polk County, regardless of precinct.

The Do Not Use Water order has been lifted and the city of Carlisle is now under a Boil Water Advisory while water quality testing is completed. Drinking water continues to be distributed at the parking lot across from Carlisle City Hall from 7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM. See post below for instructions on what the water can and cannot be used for and how to flush your home water system before beginning to use water again

Bottled drinking water is being distributed from 7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 6 PM today in the parking lot across from Carlisle City Hall. 
Indianola Wellness Center is offering free showers to Carlisle community members. The wellness center does have accessible showers for those with mobility needs. Please bring a photo ID or utility bill to show that you are a Carlisle resident. 
The laundromat in Pleasantville, Iowa is offering free laundry facilities for Carlisle residents as well, and portable shower facilities are also available at Jenkins Garden Market in Carlisle.
A free community dinner will be hosted at Saint Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carlisle this evening from 5 PM to 7:30 PM.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). One of the ways CICIL is bringing awareness to employment for people with disabilities is to partner with a law firm to host an expungement clinic.

CICIL is partnering with Branstad & Olson Law Offices and hosting an Expungement Clinic! This clinic will assist people with disabilities who have legal barriers to employment.
