Digital leads assisted detectives with locating Madilyn in Missouri.

As detectives from our Special Victims Section followed leads locally, they requested the assistance of a DMPD Crimes Against Persons Section detective, specially trained as a member of the FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), to assist in the investigation.

Within a few hours, cellular data analysis identified the teen as being in Blue Springs, Missouri. DMPD detectives collaborated with the City of Blue Springs, Missouri Police Department in and the teen was recovered safely.

Arrangements are being made to reunite her with her family.

The work our officers do on the streets can change pace in an instant.

Sometimes it’s fast and dynamic, like yesterday afternoons pursuit of a stolen car. Other times, it’s tense and methodical, like the 90 minutes spent searching for an armed domestic violence suspect earlier this week.

Knowing when to move quickly and when to slow down, work carefully, and stay patient requires focus, teamwork, and sound judgment.

The response looks different, but the result is the same; suspects in custody.

Whatever the call demands, our team rises to the occasion.

After decades of public service, with both the DMPD and United States Army, Paul Tieszen retired from the jobs, but not from the service. Paul dedicated himself to helping other veterans who at times were struggling with their experiences.

The shared sacrifices of public service bond us together long after we move into the later chapters of our lives. Yesterday, DMPD was honored to be part of the crowd welcoming Paul home after his journey with other veterans on the Lone Eagle Honor Flight.

Thank you for your service, leadership, and friendship!

Crimes Against Persons Section detectives have made an arrest in the October 4th shooting incident in the Court Avenue Entertainment District.

18-year-old Jayshawn Woods Crawford was taken into custody last night by detectives. He is currently charged with one count of Attempted Murder (Class B felony).

Two handguns have been recovered.

Detectives learned during the investigation that Woods Crawford is currently on pre-trial release for prior felony charges and is wearing a GPS ankle monitoring device. Data from that device placed Woods Crawford near the scene.

Woods Crawford was captured on surveillance video at the scene, and admitted to detectives that he shot the victim.

The 23-year-old victim remains hospitalized and continues to recover.

Detectives continue this investigation.

Each year, our Crimes Against Property Section detectives post a clearance rate above the national average. They can be tough cases, committed by people who know the goal is to go undetected while they steal from you.

After a Family Day win at Mediacom Stadium, Drake Football players returned to their locker room to find that wallets, debit cards, headphones, and other miscellaneous pieces of personal property had been stolen from them.

The tracking capabilities of some of the electronic devices pointed to a house a few blocks away in the 1400 block of 34th St. Unable to get a response at the door, patrol officers secured the house and called in Crimes Against Property Section detectives.

Detectives worked deep into the night to obtain and then serve a search warrant at the house. Led by Det. Escobar, the majority of the property was recovered and returned to the players.

An 18-year-old resident of the house was charged with multiple felonies related to the burglary of the locker room.
