UPDATE, 9:45 AM, Oct 16:

Karen has been located. She is healthy and well and being reunited with family.

UPDATE, 7:25 AM, Oct 16:

Karen remains missing as of this morning.

Throughout the night, officers have searched, checking hospitals, shelters, businesses and neighborhoods.

As temperatures have dropped, residents are asked to check any unlocked outbuildings (garages, sheds, etc) and vehicles where Karen may have sought shelter.

Residents in and near the Drake, Beaverdale, and Downtown neighborhoods are asked to review any home video security systems and to contact DMPD if they have recorded an image of Karen since she went missing yesterday evening.

Officers have learned that Karen did take a DART bus to the DART Central Station earlier this evening. It is possible that she is in the downtown or surrounding area.

The Des Moines Police Department is requesting the community's assistance with locating a missing endangered person.

83-year-old Karen Soike was last seen just before 5:00 PM walking near the Price Chopper store in Beaverdale. Karen is living with Alzheimer's.

Law enforcement and family efforts to locate Karen have not produced results.

Karen is 4'10" tall, and weighs approximately 120 lbs. She was last seen wearing a tan trench coat and floral pants.

Digital leads assisted detectives with locating Madilyn in Missouri.

As detectives from our Special Victims Section followed leads locally, they requested the assistance of a DMPD Crimes Against Persons Section detective, specially trained as a member of the FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), to assist in the investigation.

Within a few hours, cellular data analysis identified the teen as being in Blue Springs, Missouri. DMPD detectives collaborated with the City of Blue Springs, Missouri Police Department in and the teen was recovered safely.

Arrangements are being made to reunite her with her family.

Officers in Missouri found the teen to be with a 19-year-old male. He has been detained as the investigation continues.

Additional information will be shared as it becomes available for release.

The Des Moines Police Department is asking for the community's help with locating a missing endangered teenager.

14-year-old Madilyn voluntarily left her home on the city's east side several days ago. She has had sporadic contact with family, but is without needed medications and is believed to be in crisis.

Law enforcement and family efforts to locate Madilyn have not produced results.

Madilyn is 5'3” tall, and weighs approximately 180 Ibs. Her hair has been dyed bright green since this photo was taken. She was last known to be wearing a shirt with blue & black polka dots on it, and gray sweatpants.

Throwback Thursday: Before smart phones and social media, there was another creative way communities helped keep missing children's faces in front of the public: milk cartons.

Iowa played a significant role in that movement!

Johnny Gosch and Eugene Martin, two Des Moines newspaper carriers who disappeared while on their routes, were among the first missing children featured on milk cartons by Anderson Erickson Dairy in Des Moines. The effort helped spark a nationwide awareness campaign that became known as the "Milk Carton Kids" movement.

The Des Moines Police Department is asking for the community's help with locating a missing teenager.

17-year-old Emily voluntarily left her home on the city's west side. Investigators have information that she may be in the company of adult men and at risk of exploitation.

Emily often goes by the name “Angel”.

Unconfirmed information suggests that Emily has been visiting “fish game” locations around the city; most recently on the south side.

Emily is 5’6” tall, and weighs approximately 110 Ibs. Her hairstyle was last known to be as shown in this photo.
