Times-Delphic Letter to the Editor
April 2, 2012:
There is a problem with Drake University today. It’s a problem that few are willing to talk about, and fewer are willing to act upon. When we look back at our time at Drake, and remember what happened here, we want to be happy that we did something, glad we contributed. We cannot, and should not, ignore the problems of Drake today in the hopes that they will go away tomorrow. After an amazing dialogue at Thursday night’s senate meeting, I have been inspired by the courage and understanding of my peers to seek solutions. The problems we face cannot be solved by our institutions alone, but must be confronted by individuals. Our leaders must be special people, possessing sensitivity and an ability to handle problems such as these. It is for this reason, that after seeing the field of candidates running for our student senate, I, Chad Stephens, decided that enough was enough. I am announcing my candidacy for student senate, in order to take on the tough questions confronting our student leaders. I believe that in times such as these, leadership must be found within ourselves. You can trust me to be that leader, to handle the tough questions, and be a positive force for good on student senate. I ask you to write in my name in the upcoming student senate election, so that together, we can solve the problems that are confronting our campus today.
