Thanks to everyone who joined us for our quarterly Small Business Connect event on Monday! It was a fun, informal gathering full of good conversation. Thanks in particular to Mayalu Coffee for hosting. Delicious drinks with plants and a colorful, cozy interior - the perfect setting for a late winter evening.

Are you an existing or aspiring small business owner that has questions on business banking, business lending, and how to even begin to talk about those topics? Our friends at The Iowa Center are hosting Access to Capital: Connecting Entrepreneurs to Capital next Wednesday, February 4 from 4 to 6:30pm! This promises to be an engaging, dynamic event where entrepreneurs can ask honest questions about financing, and talk with actual business lending professionals that work here in Des Moines. Registration and more information can be found on the Iowa Center's website: https://theiowacenter.org/event/access-to-capital-day-in-person/

It's official - we've moved! In addition to Nick and Bre with your Small Business Support Center, the majority of staff from Development Services, Neighborhood Services, and Information Technology have officially made the move, with teams from the City Clerk’s office, Community Impact and Relations, Legal, the City Manager’s office, Housing, Human Resources, Finance, and Engineering joining soon. The full transition will wrap up by mid-February, and we’re especially excited about the new Customer Service Hub opening next week. This Hub will serve as a central, in-person point of contact for City services, with daily staff from the City Clerk’s office, the Permit and Development Center, Housing Services, and Neighborhood Services ready to help answer questions and connect residents to the right resources. City Council and Boards and Commissions will also begin meeting here in early February.
We’re loving the new space and can’t wait to welcome you. Located at 1200 Locust Street, the building is easy to reach whether you’re driving, taking transit, biking, or walking. Public entrances are available from the street level and the skywalk system, and the building is designed to be more accessible, more collaborative, and more connected than ever before. Check out these photos of Bre and Nick exploring the space. Our official description so far is “government chic.”
