Our Health Services team continues to invest in excellence.
Several nurses attended the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) Spring Conference in New Orleans, connecting with correctional healthcare professionals from across the country and participating in sessions focused on advancing care within correctional settings.
Theyβre bringing back new ideas, best practices, and fresh perspectives to help strengthen the care we provide every day across Iowa DOC facilities.
Weβre also proud to recognize members of our team who are Certified Correctional Health Professionals (CCHP) through NCCHC, demonstrating their commitment to specialized expertise and high standards in correctional healthcare.
Thank you to our Health Services staff for their dedication to those we serve and for continually striving to improve care across our system.

Please join us in congratulating the 8th District's Food Service Coordinator Linda Kruse on her retirement following an outstanding career with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
While she preferred to keep things low-key, her colleagues at the Burlington Residential Facility (BRF) made sure her last day was recognized and appreciated.
We thank Linda for her years of service and wish her the very best in retirement. She will be greatly missed at BRF.

Ever wonder where Iowaβs license plates actually come from?
Many of Iowaβs vanity and standard license plates are manufactured through Iowa Prison Industries at the Anamosa State Penitentiary. Inside the metal fabrication shop, incarcerated individuals gain hands-on job training and real-world manufacturing experience while helping produce the plates used across the state.
These programs are designed to build job skills, work ethic, and accountabilityβhelping participants prepare for successful reentry while contributing to essential state operations.
Itβs one example of how structured work programs within Iowa prisons support rehabilitation, responsibility, and a path forward.
