Candidate for Iowa House District 33 (Des Moines’ East Side)

Fighting for strong public schools, affordable healthcare and housing, dignity for seniors, and clean air and water.

Tonight, I’m feeling so grateful.

Five months ago, this campaign launched with a belief that District 33 deserved leadership rooted in community, compassion, and showing up for people. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of meeting neighbors from every corner of the district, hearing stories, learning from life experiences, and building relationships that will stay with me long after this election.

While this wasn’t the outcome we hoped for, I’m incredibly proud of what we built together. This campaign was powered by people who gave their time, opened their homes, shared our message, donated what they could, knocked doors, offered encouragement, and believed in the idea that politics can still be about people.

To every person who supported me: thank you.

And this is not the last you’ll hear from me. I care deeply about this community, and that commitment does not begin or end with an election result. I’m excited to continue finding ways to serve, advocate, organize, and stay engaged with the people and neighborhoods that made this experience so meaningful.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this incredible journey.

Five months ago, I entered this race because I believed the people of District 33 deserved a representative who actually sees them. What I didn’t expect was how much they’d show me.

I’ve knocked on thousands of doors across Des Moines. I’ve had hundreds of conversations with neighbors who are exhausted by rising housing costs, sky-high healthcare costs, underfunded schools, and a cancer crisis that keeps hitting families who can’t afford to absorb another blow. Ten years of Republican control have taken a real toll on our communities, and we all feel it.

But here’s what else I’ve seen: neighbors knitting scarves for local kids and people experiencing homelessness. Volunteers organizing food drives on their block. Everyday people quietly making things a little easier for each other, because that’s who we are here.

That’s the kind of care our state government owes us back.

Tomorrow, June 2nd, I’m asking for your vote. Not because of what lobbying groups want. Not because of what other politicians think is smart. And certainly not because of what corporations expect. But because of you.

Because fighting for this community has always been, and will always be, my only concern.

Pride has carried me through so many seasons of joy, friendship, courage, and growth.

As a Black gay man running for the Iowa House, I know how powerful it is to be seen, to be safe, and to know you belong. If elected, I would be the first gay Black man to serve in the Iowa House. That history matters, but only if it helps open the door wider for others.

Pride is a celebration, but it is also a reminder of the work still ahead. Across Iowa and across the country, trans and q***r people, especially trans kids and families, are being targeted by politicians who would rather divide us than solve the real problems people are facing.

This month and always, I’m grateful for the people who came before us, the community that holds us together now, and the future we’re still fighting to build.

Happy Pride Month! Every Iowan deserves to live openly, safely, and fully.

Five months in, this campaign has been built the right way: neighbor by neighbor, block by block, conversation by conversation.

I’ve personally knocked 2,064 doors across District 33 and had hundreds of conversations with neighbors about everything from housing and health care to public education and the cost of living.

Along the way, we’ve reached every neighborhood in District 33, made more than a few furry friends, and heard one clear message: people are ready for leadership that listens, shows up, and always puts our community first.

Three days left.

I’m proud to have the support of leaders and organizations who believe District 33 and Iowa deserve representation rooted in respect, integrity, and community.

I’m running to fight for affordable housing, strong public schools, better health care, clean water, and a government that puts people first.

Vote Tuesday, June 2.

I’m running to represent our neighborhoods with respect, integrity, and a commitment to putting people first.

Too many folks have stopped voting because they don’t trust either party, and big, influential money has too much power in our state. If we want to earn back the trust of our neighbors and bring people back into the process, we have to do things differently.

That’s what this campaign is about.

Vote now through June 2!

District 33 voters deserve honesty, transparency, and respect.

When a campaign uses fake endorsements, puts signs on properties without permission, files reports late, and ends up funded almost entirely by one person outside the district, voters have everytight ask questions.

This race is about trust. It’s about judgment. It’s about who will actually answer to the people who live here. District 33 deserves leadership rooted in integrity, accountability, and community. That’s the kind of campaign we’ve run.

05/26/2026

One week until District 33 decides what kind of representation we want at the Iowa Capitol.

Since January, this campaign has knocked thousands of doors, had countless conversations across our neighborhoods, and built real momentum powered by people who believe our communities deserve better.

Now it’s time to finish strong.

Early voting is happening now through June 1, and Election Day is Tuesday, June 2.

Vote Blake Clyde for Iowa House.

Today, we remember the men and women who gave everything in service to this country, and honor the sacrifice they made for all of us.

As our country faces yet another conflict, and with Iowa families once again grieving loved ones lost in the line of duty, Memorial Day feels especially heavy for Central Iowans this year.

I’m deeply grateful to the people who gave the very best of themselves to protect others and serve something bigger than themselves.
