Our firefighters recently participated in our annual SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) consumption drill. This training allows our members to practice monitoring their air supply while working in full gear and performing physically demanding tasks under realistic conditions.
Regular training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared to operate safely and effectively when responding to emergencies. We are proud of our members for their continued dedication to training, teamwork, and serving our community

Fire Prevention Week – Safety Tip #7: Have a Home Evacuation Plan
Every second counts during a fire. Having a home evacuation plan can help make sure everyone knows what to do and where to go in an emergency.
Create an evacuation plan for your home and identify two ways out of every room when possible.
Make sure doors and windows are not blocked and can be used as escape routes.
Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance from your home, such as a specific tree, mailbox, or other landmark.
Make sure everyone in your household knows the meeting place. Knowing where to meet after leaving the house is extremely important so you can account for everyone and firefighters know whether anyone may still be inside.
Practice your escape plan with everyone in your home so that everyone knows what to do when the smoke alarm sounds.
Remember: Get out, stay out, and call 911. Never go back inside a burning home.
This concludes our seven Fire Prevention Week safety tips! We hope these reminders help you and your family stay safe and prevent accidental fires.

Fire Prevention Week – Safety Tip #6: Know How to Use a Fire Extinguisher
Do you know how to properly use a fire extinguisher? It’s important to know the basics before you need one.
Remember P.A.S.S.:
P – Pull the Pin
A – Aim the Nozzle at the base of the fire
S – Squeeze the Lever
S – Sweep Side to Side
Only use a fire extinguisher if the fire is small and contained, you have a clear exit behind you, and you feel comfortable doing so.
If the fire grows or you are unsure, get out, stay out, and call 911.

Fire Prevention Week – Safety Tip #5: Candle Safety
Candles can create a warm and relaxing atmosphere, but they can also become a fire hazard if they’re not used safely.
Here are some important candle safety reminders:
Keep burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another.
Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.
Never leave burning candles unattended. Extinguish them whenever you leave the room.
Keep candles well out of the reach of children and pets.
Place candles on a stable surface in a fire-resistant holder, at least 12 inches away from anything flammable.
Never move a burning candle. Allow it to cool completely before handling it.
Always extinguish candles before going to bed!

Fire Prevention Week – Safety Tip #4: Home Heating Safety
As the weather gets cooler, many of us will begin using furnaces and space heaters to keep our homes warm. Before turning on your heating equipment, take a few moments to make sure you’re using it safely.
Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heat sources.
Never leave a space heater unattended and turn it off when leaving the room or going to sleep.
Never plug a space heater into an extension cord.
Never use your stove to heat your home or dry clothes.
Have your heating system inspected annually by a qualified professional.
Make sure your carbon monoxide alarms are installed and maintained.
Never use a space heater or other appliance with a damaged cord.
A few simple precautions can help keep your home and family safe this heating season.

Fire Prevention Week – Safety Tip #3: Grease Fire Safety
Cooking fires can happen in just a matter of seconds. If you experience a grease fire, remember: COVER IT — DON’T POUR WATER ON IT!
If a grease fire starts:
✅ Stay calm and turn off the burner if it is safe to do so.
✅ Cover the pan with a metal lid, baking sheet, or cookie sheet.
✅ Leave it covered until the pan is completely cool.
🚨 If the fire grows or spreads, get out, stay out, and call 911.
NEVER pour water on a grease fire. Water can cause the fire to rapidly spread and create a dangerous fireball.
When it comes to a fire in your home, a few seconds can make a big difference. If in doubt, get out and call 911!

Fire Prevention Week – Safety Tip #2: Don’t Overload Your Washing Machine!
Most importantly, never overload your washing machine!
When too many clothes are packed into a washing machine, the added weight can put excessive strain on the machine’s motor and drive components. This can cause the machine to overheat, potentially producing smoke and creating a fire hazard.
✅ Follow the manufacturer’s recommended load size.
✅ Avoid packing clothes tightly into the washer.
✅ If your washer begins to smoke or smells like it is overheating, stop the machine and unplug it if it is safe to do so.
A little extra space in the washer can help keep your home and family safe!
