💙 HONORING OUR FALLEN 💙

The DeSoto Police Department extends our heartfelt condolences to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office following the tragic loss of Deputy Adam Sherifi, who passed away today from injuries sustained during an on-duty incident Tuesday evening.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Sherifi’s family, friends, fellow deputies, and the entire Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office during this difficult time.

We also extend our prayers for the Canton Police Department officer who was injured during the same incident and remains hospitalized. We pray for strength, healing, and a full recovery.

Additionally, we mourn alongside the Fort Worth Police Department following the loss of Officer Brian Gentry, who passed away yesterday after suffering a medical emergency while on duty. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and fellow officers.

Different departments. Different uniforms. One law enforcement family.

When one of us hurts, we all feel the loss. Today, we stand united in honoring those who have fallen, supporting those who continue to fight, and lifting up the families and departments impacted by these tragedies.

Rest easy, Deputy Sherifi and Officer Gentry. Your service and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Last week, Officer Ho**er from the DeSoto Police Department had the opportunity to meet with residents and management at Thorn Manor Apartments as they take the first steps toward starting their Neighborhood Watch Program! 👏🏾

Neighborhood safety works best when the community and law enforcement work together. Programs like Neighborhood Watch help residents stay informed, look out for one another, report suspicious activity, and take an active role in keeping their community safe.

A big thank you to Thorn Manor for taking the initiative and saying, “We want to be part of the solution.”

This is what community policing looks like!

See something. Say something. Look out for each other.

🏆 MADD ENFORCEMENT HEROES! 🏆

Please join us in congratulating Officer Sanchez and Officer Robertson on receiving the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Enforcement Hero Award for their outstanding work in DWI enforcement!

Apparently, “I’m good to drive” doesn’t hold up quite as well when Sanchez and Robertson are working. 😂

All jokes aside, their dedication to keeping impaired drivers off our roads helps prevent tragedies, protects families, and keeps our community safer.

Congratulations, Officer Sanchez and Officer Robertson! Well deserved!

And remember: If you drink, don’t drive; because these two clearly have time. 😂

🚨 HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION 🚨

On Thursday, September 24, 2026, at approximately 8:06 a.m., DeSoto Police officers responded to the 1500 block of Killdee Court regarding a reported shooting with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers located 36-year-old Josephus Sanders unresponsive in the street with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately began providing lifesaving aid. DeSoto Fire Rescue paramedics arrived shortly afterward and transported Sanders to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

During the investigation, DeSoto Police detectives identified 32-year-old Joseph Bryant as the suspect. Investigators determined that Sanders and Bryant knew one another, lived on the same street, and had been involved in an ongoing dispute.

Detectives obtained residential surveillance video that captured the incident. The video appears to show Sanders walking along the street when Bryant approached him. Following a brief verbal exchange, Bryant is seen firing at Sanders from close range before leaving the area in a vehicle.

Approximately 90 minutes later, Bryant returned to the scene at the request of the DeSoto Police Department. With the assistance of family members, Bryant surrendered to officers without further incident.

Bryant has been charged with Murder, a first-degree felony, and is currently being held at the DeSoto Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.

This remains an active investigation. Anyone with additional information or video related to this incident are encouraged to contact the DeSoto Police Department.
