Destin Fire Rescue

Last night, just after midnight, Destin Fire crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Indian Bayou Trail. Arriving crews found heavy fire from a fully involved structure. The structure was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Crews battled the fire until early morning and kept it from spreading to surrounding structures. No report of injuries to residents, pets, or firefighters. The cause is under investigation. Great job to all the crews! These past few days have been busy for your Firefighters. Hurricane Isaias brought many challenges to include 911 response during increasing rain and winds, having to prioritize and stack pages of responses during the most dangerous times of the storm, full District damage assessments, and the recovery efforts that followed. The upstaffed Destin Fire crews rose to the challenge.

In addition to the main fleet on the road, Destin Fire was able to bring in crews to staff additional fire trucks, Destin Fire Technical Rescue Team, and a Swift/Flood water team. No matter what the situation was, we could handle it.

A Special THANK YOU to the tireless efforts of the firefighters that would not stop post storm until every home was checked, every alarm was complete, and every road was passable to allow responders access to everyone. Those crews had all damage assessments done by 0200 post storm and even worked into the morning clearing roadways. Great Job!

Power is being restored and alarms are sounding. Be patient as the crews are working to make sure every alarm is checked and the buildings are safe!

Check our or video of Marine 19 and its complement of capabilities!

Today marks 10 years since we lost Battalion Chief Christopher “Mike” Urenda.

Although a decade has passed, Chief Urenda’s impact on Destin Fire Rescue has never faded. He was a respected leader, mentor, firefighter, and friend whose dedication to serving others left a lasting mark on our department and community.

His legacy lives on through the firefighters he guided, the lives he touched, and the many memories shared by those fortunate enough to know and serve alongside him.
Today, we honor Chief Urenda’s life, service, and leadership. He remains deeply missed and will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Chief. We’ll take it from here.
