Nineteen years ago a diverse group of veterans banded together to revive the long dormant Detroit Veterans Day Parade. They called themselves the Metro Detroit Veterans Coalition (MDVC) as a way of inviting all veterans from all affiliations to join them in their march along the streets of Detroit in honor of service to country.
Tomorrow, Sunday, November 5th, 2023, many of those same founding members will lead the 18th annual Veterans Day Parade. The Parade follows the path down Michigan Avenue to the Michigan Train Depot that so many servicemen marched to catch their ride to basic training. In 2019, thanks to Parade Master Sponsor IBEW Local 58, the Detroit Veterans Day Parade found its permanent home in Corktown anchored at the IBEW Local 58 Union Hall.
Now coupled with the 4Star4Mile Race, the Veterans Day Parade is known as the Armed Services Salute, honoring service from veterans, active military, and community volunteers with a motto of “Inspiring patriotism through community service”.
