Good Friday morning from your DPSCD Department of Public Safety! As we go into the holiday weekend, please take note of the City of Detroit Curfew Statute. Parents also remind your children that when they are not in in your presence, to be on their best behavior. Their name is a brand, the first is theirs, and the last is the families, both should be protected. They don’t want to do anything to tarnish their brand! Have a safe Holiday weekend! Did you know in Churchill, Manitoba people leave their car doors open in case a person hast to get away from a polar bear? Well, this isn’t Manitoba, we don’t have polar bears…and if we did, they wouldn’t be able to use a slim Jim to get in your car…we hope, and we want you to lock your car doors. It’s the easiest way to make sure the stuff of yours that you like, stays yours. Remember; lock your doors, don’t leave valuables in plain sight…and lock your doors!

Good Saturday morning from your DPSCD Department of Public Safety! Let’s face it, cell phones and social media aren’t going anywhere. And many parents struggle with “invading”their child’s privacy and being an involved parent. Some children may resist you following them on social media platforms, we recommend it, especially minor children. You don’t have to like every post or picture, but you should know what they are doing, and who’s interacting with them. As adults, you may recognize when a person interacting with them may not be who they are presenting themselves to be. Having conversations regarding your expectations on cell phones and social media use early and often is the key to keeping our children safe….even from themselves…when trust is involved, you don’t have to snoop. Detroit Public Schools Community DistrictChief Jackson proudly rolled up his sleeves to participate in the Youth Connections “Chiefs Cooking for Kids” event — serving up smiles, great conversation, and delicious meals alongside fellow community leaders. 🍽️💙
From the kitchen to the classroom, building positive relationships with our youth remains at the heart of what we do. Events like this remind us that sometimes the best connections are made over a shared meal and a few laughs. They passed on his gizzard casserole and settled for his strawberry cheesecake cups recipe.
Thank you to Youth Connections for creating opportunities that bring students, mentors, and community leaders together in such a meaningful way.
