CHARGED: Ramon Javon Perez Smith, 17, of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the non-fatal shooting of 14-year-old boy, also of Detroit. Defendant Smith will be waived and tried as an adult defendant.

CASE UPDATE: After an extensive review of all the relevant evidence, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has determined that charges will not issue against the Pittsburg Steelers' DeKaylin Metcalf. The warrant request is denied.

CASE UPDATE: Today, Defendant Michael Lopez, 44, of Southfield, was found guilty as charged in the homicide of Melvindale Corporal Mohamed Said.
His sentencing is scheduled for May 18, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Bridget Hathaway.

To kick off , WCPO along with members of the Detroit Crime Victims Action Team (DCVAT) hosted a Survivor/Victim 5K Walk at Belle Isle.
The event honored victims and their families, and raised awareness about victims’ rights and services available in our community.
