Wayne County deserves a judge that is fair, balanced and will provide access to justice. Throughout my legal career I have worked in various capacities.
After practicing law in Wayne County for more than 19 years and being involved in the community at large, I now feel it is time for me to seek elected office as a Wayne County Circuit Court Judge. I left Michigan to attend college and upon graduating from Vanderbilt University School of Law, I returned to Michigan because I wanted to make a difference in the community where I grew up. After practicing law in Wayne County for more than 22 years and being involved in the community at large, I now feel it is time for me to seek elected office as a Wayne County Circuit Court Judge.
I left Michigan to attend college and upon graduating from Vanderbilt University School of Law, I returned to Michigan because I wanted to make a difference in the community where I grew up. Throughout my legal career I have worked in various capacities. In addition to being an adjunct professor at the Western Michigan Thomas M. Cooley School of Law, I am currently a deputy chief of the Civil Law Group (CLG) of Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc (LAD). CLG provides essential civil legal assistance to low income residents in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties designed to improve outcomes for children and families and strengthen our community by stabilizing families and moving clients from crisis to self-sufficiency. Prior to my current position, I served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and an assistant attorney general for the State of Michigan. I was also chief counsel for the Juvenile Law Group (JLG) of LAD until its closure due to a loss of funding. JLG provided representation to children in abuse and neglect situations and representation to juveniles charged with crimes. JLG worked to protect children, reunite families and to ensure resources were provided to at risk youth in our community. While these positions fulfilled my desire to impact the lives of children and families, I also believe these positions have given me a diverse perspective as it relates to our justice system and makes me uniquely qualified to be a judge.
I am a member the 2009 graduating class of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit, a 10 month transformational leadership program. In 2014, I was named an inaugural fellow for the George Washington University-National Medical Legal Partnership “Where Health Meets Justice Partnership” fellowship program. The purpose of which is to examine how civil legal needs can impact the health of under resourced people in our community. I also currently serve on the board of directors for Matrix Human Service and The Youth Connection, Inc.
I am committed to public service and have chosen work that improves the lives of those around me. If elected I am committed to serving all residents of Wayne county regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin or party affiliation.
