Y’all remember @queenlatifah and @nbcsnl with this classic commercial for @excedrin from 2004? 🤣🤣🤣 Allow me to explain why it’s resonated with me over the last 20 years: . . A year after this sketch, I began my first job at one of the major TV networks in LA. The job was my first of many to have its share of racial tension stress 😵‍💫 Some of my version: •Coworkers calling me “Orlando” or “Fernando” when I’m Cisco, the Mexican-Native who looks nothing like Orlando the Cuban dude! •Uh, thanks I do speak English very well, and no, I can’t translate that into Spanish for you, please stop asking. •Actually, I work on the TV production crew, NOT the cleaning crew… •No all Latinos aren’t Mexican! •Yes, Latinos can be Black or even White (and every shade in between!) •No, I can’t tell you where the best salsa club is or what Bad Bunny is flowing about. •Actually, Spanish is the language of the colonizer, but thanks for making me feel awful about my fluency 🫠 •Yes, I do know where you can buy good w**d from, but don’t ask me at work foo!🤦🏽‍♂️😜 . The The Detroit River Project is pleased to partner with the Gordie Howe International Bridge project. SW Detroit youth and adults will be engaged in activities designed to promote wellness / engage history and heritage using the story of Freedom across international borders. Our Camp Freedom at Midnight by Detroit River Project, A Heritage Camp activities will include programming based on our award winning educational curriculum, "Along the Fluid Frontier, The Detroit River Project International Heritage Curriculum. We are pleased to be 1 of the 13 organizations awarded. A press event was held on Tuesday, February 6th at CHASS Center, who is also an awardee.
