Detroit Action Detroit Action is a grassroots member-led, community-based organization fighting for political power, racial and economic justice for working-class Detroiters.

Detroit Action is the alignment of Detroit Action Commonwealth, Good Jobs Now and the Michigan Small Business Alliance. Relaunched with the support of the Center for Popular Democracy in 2019, Detroit Action seeks to be a union for Black and Brown Michiganders to build power and defend our communities. GJN was launched in 2011 with support from SEIU’s Fight for a Fair Economy Campaign (FFE). FFE campaigns invested resources in 16 cities across the country to shift the narrative about income inequality in this country and to push the daily struggles of working people to the forefront of political decision-making. Detroit Action Commonwealth, an organization founded in 2008, was dedicated to building power for homeless and low-income Detroiters on the Northeast side.

Having a plan for voting for this general election is crucial and Detroit Action is here to help!

Did you know that if you don’t have an accepted ID or forgot to bring it, you can sign a simple form, an AFFIDAVIT, and still register to vote?

IT’S TRUE!

If you’d like to get familiar with the form, the affidavit can be found with the Michigan Secretary of State at https://bit.ly/MIVoterAffidavit.

Once you sign the affidavit, you may cast your ballot. It will be counted with all other ballots on Election Day.

📢If you’re registering in person to vote, you will be asked for a photo ID–it’s state law.

What type of ID is accepted?

Your polling place will accept a:

• MI driver’s license or personal ID card
• a current driver’s license or personal ID card from another state
• a current fed or state govt issued photo ID
• a current US passport
• current military photo ID
• current Tribal photo ID

And if you do not have an accepted ID, you can still vote by filling out an affidavit to confirm your identity.  It’s really THAT easy and there’s no excuse to not vote in this election!

Early Voting - What is it?

Early voting is the opportunity to cast a ballot in person before Election Day 📢WITHOUT ELECTION DAY LINES OR WAIT TIMES.

For voters, the early voting experience is similar to the experience of voting at a polling place on Election Day including the act of putting your completed ballot into a tabulator.

Michiganders‼️ Your city or township may have designated locations and hours for specific polling places so plan accordingly.

Detroit Action is making voting easy. Stick with us for our next series as we detail when and where you can vote early in MI.
