Day 2 (actually just the morning).

A trip to the 139-foot swinging bridge in Croswell after dinner at camp tonight… the Kim Center is composed of brave adults!

What a night! Chefs Andy Hollyday and John Vermiglio were amazing! Co-hosts Carlos Parisi and Jon Kung inspired crowd participation despite the 90 degree heat. 25 restaurants provided mouth-watering treats and beverages. The sponsors and 800 guests raised over $100,000 to support programming at Cass Community!!!

Ask LaTaeya about school and she will quickly tell you about how she likes science and the arts - music, drawing and painting. She has been a student at Dixon Educational Learning Academy for three years, where her younger brother is also enrolled. Yesterday she graduated with the eighth-grade class distinguishing herself as the valedictorian!

As if that wasn't enough to make you proud of this young woman, you should know that her academic achievements happened while she was staying at Cass' Fox Family Center. She got up every morning at 6:30 to catch the bus across town to start classes at 7:30. Each afternoon, LaTaeya hit the books and the Internet to maintain her 4.0.

Not long ago, LaTaeya completed an application for the nationally recognized Cass Technical High School. Part of the process involved writing a personal essay. She told about her life, mentioned the nurturing role her mother has played in her success, and explained that the Dual Enrollment program (which allows Cass high school students to earn college credits) attracted her.

LaTaeya's acceptance announcement came via email! She is still over the moon with excitement, as are we at CCSS. This makes the second student from the Fox Family Center to be admitted to the prestigious school which has countless notable alumni.
