With a $15,000 Detroit Legacy Business Project grant, the longtime downtown favorite was able to put funding toward kitchen upgrades and outdoor seating, helping the business continue building on its legacy.

The City of Detroit, Olympia Development of Michigan, Cinnaire Solutions and community partners recently celebrated the opening of the first phase of Henry Street Apartments in the Cass Park neighborhood.

The development is restoring seven historic buildings to create a new mixed-income community. The first phase includes Bretton Hall, The Claridge and Ralston Commons, a former bowling alley transformed into a community and amenity space for residents.

When complete, Henry Street Apartments will include 170 renovated apartments across six historic residential buildings, with 49% offered at affordable rates for households earning between 30% and 60% of Area Median Income.

The project is bringing long-vacant buildings back into active use while preserving their historic character and creating more housing options for Detroiters.

When Danielle North’s son asked for somewhere to play, she saw an opportunity to create something Detroit families needed. That idea became Kidz Kingdom, a place where parents could feel confident leaving their children and kids could feel welcome.

Now, Kidz Kingdom - Child Care & Party Center has a bigger home at 20035 Plymouth Rd in District 7. After a decade in a rented storefront, Danielle is celebrating the expansion into her own 11,000-square-foot building, with dedicated spaces for childcare, summer camp and birthday parties.

An $85,000 Motor City Match Round 23 grant helped bring the new childcare space to completion. We were proud to celebrate this milestone with Danielle and her community at our 212th neighborhood ribbon cutting.
