The Children’s Center is pleased to announce that David Sanchez has been named Senior Director for External Affairs and Advocacy. He began this role today.

As Senior Director for External Affairs and Advocacy, Sanchez will set and lead the strategic direction for the agency’s external presence, internal and external communications, government relations, and advocacy, building support for The Children’s Center’s programs and priorities across a broad audience.

David’s has comprehensive experience in public affairs, community engagement, and government relations. He began his career at Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation where he was responsible for leading the organization’s community engagement and partnership initiatives. In his most recent role as Director of Government Relations for Planned Parenthood of Michigan and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, David was responsible for driving direct engagement of elected officials, development of the organization’s policy agenda, communications and messaging strategies for elected officials, and parts of its advocacy strategy. Additionally, Sanchez has held key leadership positions in the offices of State Senator Mary Cavanaugh, and United States Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence. As a former community organizer with Michigan United and SEIU Local 1 David brings deep knowledge of and experience in mobilizing communities to support causes that create positive social impact.

David is a proud and active member of the board of directors for Latin Americans for Social and Economic Development (LA SED) in his hometown of Southwest Detroit. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Dearborn and is a certified project management professional.
Beyond his professional career, David enjoys spending time with his immediate and extended family.
