For those interested in following the issue of Detroitâs Rain Tax and its impact on Detroit businesses and residents.

Good news for the investor often means bad news for current tenants. California investor (Alta Phoenix) lowballs previous long-term owner and then sells for major profit after investing a few gallons of paint. Greed at its best. Weâll be watching to see how long the current tenants last while that âmarket value waiting listâ grows longer.

Google âLincoln Brass Detroit contaminationâ and you will quickly see why we are concerned about the safety of life in our neighborhood!
Trichloroethlene (TCE) vapors are a SERIOUS concern. This chemical has been reported to cause liver and kidney damage, liver and kidney cancer and damage to the central nervous system. The Detroit News (Article dated February 7, 2018) reported TCE levels 44X above state acceptable level. Additionally, soil results were more than 8000X HIGHER (according to the Department of Environmental Quality). What happens when you disturb this building? The current plan is to allow the toxic plume to settle into our neighborhood! The toxic materials being carted away - those ill be carted right past our homes.
We need answers - what actions does Ford intend to implement to keep our neighborhood safe while demolition occurs at the Lincoln Brass site and into the future?
â âThe brass factory site is contaminated, it needs a significant amount of remediation to actually get rid of the contaminants," Dubensky said. "The only real way to do that is by taking the building out." â

Itâs official - weâre getting new neighbors!
It's official: Ford will move into former train station
Michigan Central Depot, long a symbol of Detroit's blight, has been sold to Ford Motor Co.

A note from the owner:
Our neighborhood has been in the news quite a bit lately. Itâs interesting to me that Ford Motor Co. is in talks with the Moroun family to purchase land near us here in Corktown at the same time the City of Detroit has been pushing to illegally foreclose on our property. (Remember: the storm water drain tax bills were never sent.) It seems to us that someone stood to make a very good profit with that âadministrative mistakeâ!
Please donât forget that the storm water drain tax has been ruled illegal in Michigan courts. Visit the Detroit Alliance Against Rain Tax (DAART) page and support us, DAART, and countless other Detroit residents in our fight of the illegal tax. This issue affects more than just commercial properties! Residential property owners â your drain tax rate is scheduled to increase this calendar year.
Weâre still fighting and we arenât going anywhere, but we need everyoneâs support. Iâm still waiting for that meeting with Mike Duggan (13 months and counting). I want my children to meet the Mayor that is trying take our family legacy. This isnât an easy battle, but we wonât go down without a fight â we are Detroit born and raised, after all.
