As a community, we must break away from “city-led” Juneteenth programs that cloud the true origins of this celebration and falsely suggest that the freedom of Black people has been fully achieved. Juneteenth is not simply a date on a calendar or a festival to be consumed—it is a reminder of resistance, resilience, and the unfinished struggle for liberation.
While we honor the ancestors who fought for freedom, we must also confront the realities facing Black Detroiters today: displacement, economic inequality, environmental injustice, over-policing, and barriers to housing, education, and opportunity. True freedom cannot be celebrated without acknowledging the systems that continue to impact our communities.
This Juneteenth, we invite you to gather in community, not as spectators, but as active participants in shaping a future rooted in justice, self-determination, and collective care.
Join grassroots organizers, artists, dancers, and community members for a people-powered discussion on what true liberation means for Black Detroiters. Together, we will reflect, connect, create, and imagine pathways toward a freer and more equitable future.
Freedom is not a destination—it is an ongoing struggle and a shared responsibility.
✊🏾 Come learn. Come build. Come organize. Come celebrate.

Six years ago, George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police. Six years later, we are still fighting the same systems of racist policing, state violence, and injustice that stole his life and the lives of so many others.
George Floyd should still be here.
We remember George not only through mourning, but through action — by organizing in our communities, demanding accountability, and building movements powerful enough to end police brutality and systemic racism once and for all.
The struggle continues because our people deserve safety, dignity, and justice.
Say his name: George Floyd.

COME JOIN THE DETROIT ALLIANCE IN SPREADING THE WORD ABOUT OUR PROGRESSIVE BODY CAM ORDINANCE. The People’s Body Cam Ordinance was shot down by city council last year and replaced with their own version that allows for DPD to function as it usually does— with little to no transparency nor accountability. Our ordinance actually punishes the police for muting and editing footage along with cutting the time they get to release the footage down to 7 days. We will be waving our banner with a link that directs people to our document so that all can see. COMMUNITY CONTROL NOW!!!!
