Are you a kinship caregiver navigating complex emotions and relationships? You are not alone. This special session will provide guidance, connection, and practical tools to support your journey.

Happy Birthday Tribute – Honorable Teola Hunter

Happy Birthday to the Honorable Teola Hunter — a trailblazing public servant, respected community leader, and valued member of the Franklin-Wright Settlements Board of Directors.

Born and raised in Detroit, Mrs. Hunter has dedicated her life to service through education, public leadership, and community advocacy. She began her career as an educator in Detroit Public Schools and went on to serve the citizens of Michigan as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, where she made history as the first woman to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore.

Throughout her distinguished career, she also held numerous leadership roles including Deputy Director of Wayne County Health and Community Services and Wayne County Clerk—continuing a legacy marked by many “firsts” and decades of impact across Southeast Michigan.

In honor of Black History Month, we salute you for a job well done!

We want to hear from older adults (60+) and caregivers about what matters most to you, your experiences, your challenges, and your hopes for the future. Your stories will help guide the next State Plan on Aging led by Michigan’s Bureau of Aging, Community Living, and Supports (ACLS Bureau).
