Dexter Rotary Club aims to use its intellectual, physical and financial resources to enhance the greater Dexter area. We are your neighbors and friends.

You may know us best for our annual playhouse raffle. It’s always cute and always won, but its most important purpose is to raise funds to enhance the community whether it’s our scholarships to DHS students, a therapy dog (Dexter) for the middle school, civic tree planting, Dexter Daze, Dexter Community garden, Dexter Library Reading Program, Dexter Chamber of commerce Music Series, Faith in Action, Ronald McDonald house and the list goes on. Our members our women and men drawn form diverse backgrounds but we have one common interest- helping our community thrive. You find us in your church, at your kids sporting events, bands concerts, any where your are in the community. We are a fortunate club. We are intimate with our community. While some of us work here, we all live, eat, sleep and go to church here. Our kids go to or have gone to Dexter schools. Education and children are important to us and to the future of the Dexter community. Were looking for a few good woman and men seeking to experience the beauty of “Service Above Self”. During our meeting on the evening of October 22, Cathy Jaskiewicz of the Scio Sustainability Task Force provided an overview of Scio Township’s ongoing sustainability initiatives. Through the annual Michigan Green Communities (MGC) Challenge, Scio Township earned gold status in 2025 for its commendable efforts across several sectors, including energy efficiency, climate resilience, recycling, mobility, and environmental stewardship. The MGC program serves to assist communities in addressing climate change, safeguarding infrastructure, enhancing resident quality of life, and fostering a sustainable, competitive future for Michigan. Furthermore, Scio Township has formalized its commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions from township operations by 2030, with a broader objective of reaching this goal across all township sectors by 2035.

Our morning meeting on October 15 featured James W. Morris from Health Focus, a software firm based in Dexter, Michigan. Mr. Morris provided an overview of artificial intelligence fundamentals and concluded with practical guidance on mitigating risks associated with AI-driven fraudulent activities.

Since 2011, the Dexter Rotary Club has supported Dexter Community Schools by providing therapy dogs. Currently, Kota is stationed at Mill Creek Middle School under the care of Marianne Mutschler, while Maisie serves Creekside Intermediate School under the care of Cali McKenney. These dogs were acquired from Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, MI; although they did not complete the full leader dog certification, they now fulfill a vital role supporting our students, staff, and families. We extend our sincere appreciation to Dexter Mill for providing nutritional support and to the Village Animal Clinic for their veterinary care of Kota.
We are currently seeking a local veterinarian willing to provide health care services for Maisie. Furthermore, we are looking for a professional groomer interested in donating their services to assist with the grooming requirements of both Kota and Maisie. The Dexter Rotary Club, the Dexter Wellness Coalition, and the Dexter Senior Center , supported by 5 Healthy Towns Foundation and Dementia Friendly Services are joining forces to help establish Dexter as a Dementia Friendly Community. This past Sunday Rotarian, Carrie McElroy, along with staff members of the Dexter Senior Center and others shared information about dementia at the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Representatives from the Dexter Dreadbots FIRST Robotics: 3656, accompanied by faculty and parents, presented their recent achievements and future goals to our Rotary Club, followed by a live demonstration of their robot’s mobility and ball-handling capabilities.

An Ann Arbor resident, Justin Aiken, is the Volunteer-Director of Outreach & Advocacy for the Boys & Girls Club of Rosebud. At one of our morning meetings in September Justin shared with us about his club’s programs on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The Rosebud Indian Reservation is home to the Sicangu Lakota Oyate, a vibrant and resilient nation. Yet like many tribal communities, youth face unique challenges —educational barriers, food insecurity, limited economic opportunity. The Dexter Forum, sponsored by the Dexter Rotary Club, meets on first and third Saturdays at the Dexter Senior Center from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A recent meeting moderated by Rotarians Karl Fink and Caryl Burke and attended by our Congress member, Debbie Dingell, as well as state representatives, local officials and other people worth meeting.

Sorian Rapson was presented with a $1,000 STRIVE scholarship by Rick Vanden Heuvel to support his culinary studies at Schoolcraft College. As a gesture of appreciation, Sorian provided refreshments for our Rotary morning meeting, thank you Sorian and good luck in your next chapter!

Over the Edge fundraiser for Friends In Deed September 12. Our fellow Rotarian, Alix has committed to rappelling down a seven-story building to raise money for Friends-In-Deed. Her goal is to raise $1,000 to help local families experiencing financial hardship. Every donation – big or small - helps provide housing assistance, transportation, furniture, and other essential resources for our neighbors.

During our recent evening meeting, our Dexter Rotarians presented a $1000 check to Gianna Malavevi, an aspiring graduate student, to facilitate the purchase of a laptop. Good luck on your next chapter Gianna!
Additionally, our Club Members participated in preparing backpacks and food bags for students within the Dexter Schools.
