Week 12 Skill: Respect Personal Space!

This week, we’re focusing on an important Dexter Edge skill—respect personal space!

Respecting personal space means recognizing others’ comfort and boundaries and adjusting appropriately for the situation. It’s another skill that helps our students build confidence, character, and habits for success in school and beyond.

Check out one of our Dexter students introducing this week’s skill! 💙🖤

It was a cheesy kind of week in the Culinary classroom! Our Middle School Basic Foods students were on a roll with their Grilled Cheese Lab, practicing kitchen safety, following directions, and cooking techniques as they created the perfect golden, melty sandwich.
Our High School Culinary students decided to raise the crust with their Pizza Lab! Students made their dough from scratch, practiced measuring, mixing, kneading, and baking, and topped it all off with their own pizza creations. We don’t mean to be cheesy, but watching our students build confidence and skills in the kitchen is a pretty GRATE way to learn!

Dear Families,

In New Mexico, a student is considered chronically absent after missing 10 percent or more of enrolled school days or classes for any reason. In a typical 155-day school year, that is about 15 days only . Excused and unexcused absences both reduce instructional time.

Beginning Monday, October, 19th, Dexter Consolidated Schools will be launching "Show Up. Connect. Succeed." to encourage regular attendance and help every student feel connected to school. Regular attendance protects learning time, strengthens relationship, and keeps students connected to opportunities.

What you can do to help, make school attendance a part of the family routine? Schedule appointments outside the school day whenever possible, notify the school promptly when your child must be absent, contact the school early when transportation, health, mental health, caregiving, or another challenge affects attendance, ask for help. The district attendance team will work with students and families to identify barriers and connect them with support.

We will can't wait to celebrate attendance improvements and progress through the school year. Thank you for helping your student Show Up. Connect. Succeed.
