Carver Birthplace Association (CBA) The George Washington Carver Birthplace Association (CBA) is a non-profit organization.

Established in 1943, the George Washington Carver Birthplace Association (CBA) is a non-profit organization who assists in advancing the historical, scientific, educational and interpretive programs of the National Park Service at George Washington Carver National Monument (GWCNM) and works to promote the legacy of Dr. George Washington Carver. Through membership donations, fundraising events and operation of the GWCNM park museum gift store, CBA assists the GWCNM in paying for many park events and services. CBA also raises funds for the annually awarded CBA college student scholarship. CBA is currently in the process of raising money for the development and restoration of Carver's boyhood schoolhouse (circa. 1872) in Neosho, Missouri. During its history, CBA was instrumental in adding property to the George Washington Carver National Monument to complete ownership of the original George Carver Farm by the GWCNM.

The clocks fall back this Sunday, November 1. The deer don't. 🦌

The drive home stays at the same time on the clock, but next week it happens in the dark, right in the middle of the busiest crossing season of the year.

Why everyone's on the road this month:

- Deer are in the rut. Bucks chase does across roads and stop watching for cars
- Raccoons are feeding hard before winter and spend more of the night out
- This year's young foxes have left home and are hunting for territory of their own

The worst stretch is the two hours after sunset — which, as of Sunday, is the commute.

đźš— For the next few weeks:

- Slow down from sunset to full dark, the hours they move most
- High beams when no one's coming, and scan the road edges
- One deer crossing usually means another right behind it
- If one's in the lane, brake firmly and stay straight

Looking for something a little out of the box, or maybe a design that really flies off the pumpkin this spooky season?

Nothing says “scary” quite like a 2,000-pound furry mammal you’ve annoyed launching you into another dimension. Or the tree above. Either way, it comes with a thud. Talk about a smashing Halloween.

Which is why we always recommend admiring bison from a safe distance. They’re magnificent, unpredictable, and not particularly interested in your Halloween costume.

We're a little over a week out from Halloween, and many are still making decorating decisions for their yards. STLPR discusses how to have fun with spooky style while still caring for the environment in "How to decorate for Halloween without harming the planet" https://ow.ly/ZfGK50ZZKFr -- and we're proud to be mentioned as a resource for "Leave the Leaves" education and native garden signage! Visit our shop to view all of our sign designs, knowing proceeds go toward prairie conservation work and Grow Native! programming: https://store.moprairie.org/

"Apples for C***r" by Alis Wintle Sefick is a book that supports agricultural literacy for young readers grades K-5.

The story follows a little girl and her grandmother as they set out to pick apples for making c***r. As they wander through the orchard, filling their baskets with ripe, juicy apples, they become separated and encounter other whimsical characters along the way. A Parent/Teacher Guide is available to accompany the book.
