Please read ALL of this post. We know this is last minute, but Christine O'Shields with the NWCA Honeybees 257 is going out to maintain her family's plots today and just wanted to put it out there incase anyone is interested in stopping in to sponsor a veteran wreath for our veterans buried here at Rotten Bayou Cemetery. She will be there until 3:00 p.m. today. If you have a veteran family member buried here, we encourage you to please sponsor them. Each year our grave specific sponsorships done by direct family members (or friends of those veterans) have dropped significantly. We went from having close to 100 grave specific sponsorships (many years ago) to about 30. We would love to see more family members involved (if able.) The Honeybees-- with help from wonderful organizations, several businesses and members of our community-- have worked extremely hard each year to ensure enough funds are raised to make sure no veteran is forgotten; however, over the years, direct sponsorships by family has dropped extensively. On average, we now have about 30 veterans directly sponsored by family members-- and each year, it is becoming more difficult to reach their goal of covering each and every veteran buried here. So far, every year, their goal has been successful-- and we can only hope and pray there is never a day where any of our veterans are left without a wreath due to lack of funds raised or sponsorships. Wreaths are $17 each-- and any extra funds (if any) that are raised or donated are always carried over to the following year to help cover as many wreaths as possible for the next year. I will try to post our veteran list, along with those who have already been sponsored, later in the week. In the meantime, Christine will have the list with her today at the cemetery incase anyone is interested. We know this is a last minute post, but wanted to out it out there while she was there today. She will also be out there on All Saints Day, as she is each year. If anyone would like to contact her, her number is 228-669-0743.

Ruth Elaine Ladner, age 77, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 22, 2026. A longtime resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, Ruth attended St. John High School. Throughout her life, she worked hard and took great pride in owning and operating her own housekeeping business. She was of the Catholic faith.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Necaise; her mother, Verda Necaise; and her stepson, David Ladner.

She leaves behind her children, Brian (Chastity) Ladner and Kendall (Lana) Ladner; her stepdaughter, Shannon Latimer; her siblings, Shirley Cavanaugh, Barbara Ellis, Carol (Kelley) Rayburn, and Beverly (John) Tiblier; and her beloved grandchildren, Jenna Ladner, Kaylynn Bowley, Madalynn Bowley, Kennedy Ladner, Caleb Ladner, Kameron Ladner, and Shaylee Castillo.

Ruth enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life special. She could often be found working in her yard or enjoying her favorite music, especially Bon Jovi and Keith Urban. But nothing brought her more joy than being with her grandchildren. The moments spent surrounded by those she loved were the ones she treasured most.

Ruth will be remembered for the love she had for her family and for the many memories she leaves behind in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Road, Pass Christian, MS 39571. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery at Rotten Bayou.

Next up....
Imagine being on probation and thinking, “You know what would be a really good idea? Let’s go pilfer from a cemetery....with Dana!” 🤦‍♂️
Well… that brilliant plan apparently ended with a trip to jail. 🚔
Meet Cory. Cory was with Dana. Cory and Dana BOTH have been arrested for Petit Larceny stemming from the previous incident at Bayou Coco Cemetery; however, Cory has that additional charge....and that MDOC probation- violation hold isn’t looking so good!
Thank you again to our Hancock County Sheriff's Department, along with all of our deputies and Investigator Lee Cox for working so hard to keep the thieves out of our cemeteries! Please know, if you steal, destroy or damage anything in our cemeteries, you WILL be held accountable!

Meet Dana. Dana is the most recent individual who was caught on video pilfering items from local graves at Bayou Coco Cemetery. Dana decided that gravesite tokens were worth trading for a brand-new orange top and an official Hancock County booking photo. Dana is currently holding an active status at the local jail while she waits to explain her petit larceny charge to a judge. Don't be like Dana. Leave the cemetery property alone.

⚠️ PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR CEMETERY BEAUTIFUL ⚠️
We are asking all families and visitors to please DO NOT dump unused concrete, cement, or other leftover construction materials anywhere on cemetery grounds.
We understand that concrete may sometimes be left over after work is completed at a gravesite. However, dumping it along the cemetery roads, in wooded areas, or on the cemetery grounds is not permitted.
Once concrete is dumped, these piles harden and become extremely difficult to remove. They are unsightly, can interfere with mowing and maintenance, and take away from the peaceful and respectful appearance of our cemetery.
📸 The photo below is an example of what we are asking everyone to please avoid.
Our cemetery is a place where families come to remember, honor, and visit their loved ones. Please help us keep it clean, beautiful, and respectful for everyone.
If you have leftover concrete or other materials from work at a gravesite, please make arrangements for proper disposal rather than leaving it on cemetery property.
Thank you for understanding and for helping us take care of our cemetery and the memories of those who are resting here.

Meet the two men who have been arrested after stealing several veterans’ memorial plaques from gravesites at Rotten Bayou, Bayou Coco and Standard Sandhill Cemeteries! And please, give a HUGE thank you to Investigator Lee Cox, the Hancock County Sheriff's Department and everyone else involved in catching these two! Unfortunately, although the plaques were recovered, they were destroyed, but hopefully we can work on getting these replaced!
