Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the City of Dickinson joins our nation in remembering a day that forever changed America.

We honor the nearly 3,000 innocent people who lost their lives, those who later passed away from 9/11-related illnesses, the first responders who courageously rushed toward danger, and the countless families whose lives were forever altered.

In one of our nation’s darkest moments, we witnessed extraordinary courage, compassion, and service. Neighbors helped neighbors, communities came together, and Americans from every background stood united in support of one another.

City Manager Chaise Cary shared:

“Today, I encourage each of us to reflect on the sacrifices made that day and to honor those memories through acts of kindness, respect, service, and unity. Let us continue working together with purpose, compassion, and a shared commitment to making our community stronger.”

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

What the City of Dickinson should expect:

Rain (primary threat)
A Flood Watch is in effect for the City of Dickinson through 7 a.m. Wednesday. We have a possibility of 3-6 inches across the Upper Texas Coast into east-central Texas, the usual areas are expected to hold high waters. Highest risk is along and east of I-45; Dickinson sits in that corridor. Heavy rainbands can produce 1-3 inches in a short time and flood streets, low spots, and Dickinson Bayou. Additional showers are possible Wednesday from remnants.

Wind
Dickinson is not in the core of tropical-storm-force winds. Expect breezy conditions, generally 15-30 mph with higher gusts in rainbands. A slight westward track shift could bring stronger gusts, but sustained tropical-storm winds are more likely east of here (Chambers County, Bolivar, High Island).
Tropical Storm Warnings cover parts of Galveston County (especially coastal/eastern zones).

Surge / coastal water
Storm Surge Warning is from High Island to the Cameron/ Vermilion line, with 3-5 feet possible along the immediate coast there. Dickinson and Galveston Bay should see lower surge (on the order of 1-3 feet in vulnerable, low-lying spots), plus ponding if rain coincides with higher tides.

10 am Edouard Update: Tropical Storm Edouard continues to gain strength as it tracks towards the coast. The storm now has sustained winds of 50 mph with gusts up to 65 mph and is expected to be a strong tropical storm at landfall. As for the landfall location, it will likely be a little farther east of us closer to Louisiana. The storm this morning took more of a sharp northerly turn that brought the system closer to the coastline. But the most recent movement of Edouard has been more westerly, so these bobbles can still influence when and where the storm makes landfall and how strong it is.

The system south of Louisiana has been upgraded to a 50% chance of development in the next 48hrs as it drifts WNW over the next few days. Regardless of whether it develops, this system is expected to bring an increased risk of heavy rain and flash flooding by Tuesday.
