Twenty-five years ago today, the world changed forever.
Today we think about the 343 FDNY first responders who answered the call and never came home. We think about the police officers, EMS, Port Authority, and every first responder who ran toward the danger while everyone else ran away. We think about the families who still feel the empty chair at the table.
We think about the ones we’ve lost since—hundreds more taken by the cancers and illnesses that followed them home from Ground Zero. The sacrifice didn’t end on September 11, 2001.
Every time the tones drop, every time we train, every time we stand on the side of a highway or walk into a burning building, we do it knowing what real courage looks like. Those men and women showed us.
To the families still grieving: we see you.
To the survivors still fighting: we stand with you.
To every brother and sister who answered the call that day: We will never forget.
25 years later.
Still remembering.
Still grateful.
Still ready.
