From decorating with jack-o-lanterns to costume parties and trick-or-treating, many hallmarks of present fire hazards. Nearly half (47 percent) of U.S. home fires occurred because decorations were too close to a heat source; approximately one-third (33 percent) started with candles. Registration for the 2026 VCU Health Virtual EMS Symposium is almost here!

November 8–14, 2026 | All Virtual

This year marks the 5th year VCU Health has offered a Virtual EMS Symposium, continuing a commitment to providing accessible, high-quality continuing education for the EMS community. For five years, the virtual format has created an opportunity for EMS clinicians to connect with education and expertise from VCU Health while participating from wherever they are.

For 2026, we are maintaining the familiar weeklong format offered last year:

• 3 sessions each evening: 6–7 p.m., 7–8 p.m., and 8–9 p.m.
• Sunday through Saturday
• 21 total CE hours available
• All sessions presented virtually
•
Education across the spectrum of EMS care
This year’s program is being developed around a broad range of topics relevant to prehospital practice, including cardiovascular and neurologic emergencies, trauma and burn care, pharmacology, complex and specialty patients, infectious and special-pathogen considerations, clinical decision-making, legal considerations, and other challenges encountered by EMS clinicians.

Expertise that connects the field with specialty care
Our presenter lineup brings together clinicians, physicians, educators, and subject-matter experts whose experience spans prehospital care, emergency medicine, specialty care, and other disciplines that intersect with EMS. Their expertise helps connect what happens in the field with the specialized care patients receive after arrival at the hospital.

Reaching our 5th year is more than a milestone. It reflects VCU Health’s ongoing investment in the EMS community and our commitment to providing a consistent, accessible educational opportunity year after year. Whether you participate in a single session or join us throughout the week, we hope the symposium continues to be a valuable part of your continuing education.

Registration opens soon. The complete course schedule and individual session information will be released following final CE approval from OEMS.
