It's going to be another warm one out there! Animal Control Officers want to remind you and your dog to be safe in the heat and avoid heat stroke with a few tips.

1. Avoid activity during the peak of the day, early mornings and late evenings are best times to play with your dog.
2. NEVER leave a dog in a car. It does not take long for dogs to become extremely hot in a locked car.
3. Always make sure your animals have access to water and a way out of the sun. Animals must have access to water and shelter AT ALL TIMES. A gentle reminder from Animal Control Officers. 🐾

Make sure your pens are cleaned up for your critters and remember horses find a way to get themselves stuck or injured anywhere. It could happen in a rubber room as they will find a way!!! This horse was called into the Sheriff’s Office today with something on its foot. I got to the property and found “Leroy” had stuck his hoof in a cinder block and was walking around with it. I tried to get his hoof bent enough to get it off but that didn’t work. A couple strikes with a hammer and it broke apart without injuring “Leroy”. Try to keep them safe!

Spring means baby deer, this photo is normal. A Doe will hide her fawn/fawns in shrubbery. She returns at night to nurse her baby. It is not uncommon for a mother deer to leave her offspring unattended for two days or even longer, but she will return. Leave them be. The mom will come back. They can mistake you for a mother as they don’t see clearly at this young age. Please respect wildlife/ coexist and enjoy this event from a distance.

Summer is off and running full steam. We are almost in the middle of June already. Please be careful taking your dogs in your vehicles. Rolling down the windows helps but it still gets too hot as temperatures rise rapidly. If you have to stop somewhere please take your dog home first. See the temperature chart below from SPCA.

Kitten season is upon the shelter and in full swing within the county. Here’s a statistic you may want to think about when deciding whether or not to get your kitties spayed or neutered.. please be a responsible pet owner.

If you have a litter of kittens that need homes, please consider reaching out to TCRAS for rehoming. They will ensure all kittens will be spayed or neutered and all vaccines before adopting them to a new family.
