Mueller also has two options to stay overnight. There are 132 campsites in the park; 17 of these are open for winter camping . The park also has three cabins for rent year-round. This time of year it is easy to tell does from bucks since bucks should have their antlers. These three does are showing off their ears and enjoying some natural goodies along Black Bear Trail. 🦌🌲

We had the pleasure of visiting with Earl last week as we visited remnants of the cabin his grandpa, Earl Osborn, built in the early 1900s. It was special to hear about a piece of the park’s history from his personal perspective.

A fond memory was about his role in the family as the designated tree climber when searching for Christmas trees. He would climb a tree and chop the top off to be used for the holidays. His aunt, Fran, was particular about her trees so it was not uncommon for him to climb to the top just to be told she no longer liked that one. 🌲

Take a hike to the Osborn homestead and you can see a picture of Earl (grandson) as a child on the plaque in front of the cabin.

Thanks Earl for sharing your memories with us!

Remember the turkey hen who protected her poults from a bird of prey a couple months ago? Here they are grown up, but mama isn’t any less fierce. Watch how she puffs her feathers and drags her wings on the ground as an intimidating display.
