Who is ready for the NCD Poultry and Rabbit Show this year?? 🐓🐇

2027 NCD 4-H Poultry & Rabbit Show registration will be held in 4-H Online. So, once you re-enroll for the new year in January, you can select this show if you plan to participate.

Our tentative plans are:
Jan. 11 Registration Deadline for the Poultry Show event in 4-H Online
Feb. 13 (tentative, pending USPS delivery): families pick up chicks
May 31 - Rabbit Show deadline
June 1, 2027 - Project Record Books Due (hard copy or digital, but NOT Kaleidoscope)
June 15, 2027 @ 10 a.m. - NCD 4-H Poultry & Rabbit Show - Location: King American Legion Post 290, 432 South Main Street, King, NC (in the barn)

The two breeds we are planning for the chicken show are Orpington (possibly Buff, depending on availability) and a Rock (possibly Barred, depending on availability).

Mrs. Amanda’s desk is lined with cups of caterpillars, and that could only mean one thing…Winged Wonders school enrichment sessions are in full swing! Second grade classes will be receiving their caterpillars this week, so they can watch the life cycle of a butterfly right in their classrooms! 🍀🐛🦋

You have 2 more weeks to get your pumpkins ready! All entries are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, October 23rd. 🍀🎃

We are excited to announce our 4-H Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Any type and size of pumpkin or gourd may be used. Entries should include a note card with the youth’s name, age, and phone number. Pumpkins will be on display at the Surry County Cooperative Extension Office the week of October 26th-30th. Community members will be able to vote for their favorite pumpkin on our page or in person! The winners will be announced on Friday, October 30th on our page. We can’t wait to see your creativity!

We had two of our 4-Hers, Tyler Luther & Lauren Luther, who entered the Dr. Kim Ingold NC 4-H Photography Contest, and their photos are featured in the slideshow. Congratulations to Tyler Luther who received Honorable Mention for his photo in the Senior Nature’s Beauty category! 🍀📸
