As part of Child Passenger Safety Week, we wanted to remind you about the importance of car seats. Did you know there's a right seat for every size and developmental stage — from infants to teens? Whether it’s a rear-facing or forward-facing car seat, a booster seat or a seat belt, a certified child passenger safety technician can put parents’ minds at ease by confirming which seat is correct for their children and showing them how to correctly install that seat in their vehicle. The Lane County Sheriff's Office has two certified child passenger safety seat technicians available to check your car seat and recommend which one is right for your child. To make an appointment, call 620-397-2828 and ask for Deputy Sheriff Jennifer McDaniel or Administrative Assistant Shawna Kerley to have your seat inspected for free. NHTSA also has free resources available by clicking on the link: www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle-safety/car-seats-and-booster-seats

Congratulations!!

Great information and reminders! Fall sports are in full swing - talk to your kids too and make sure they’re prepared for those games in the heat!

It might almost be September, but summer keeps hanging on as another day of 100-plus temperatures is forecast. And with dangerous temperatures projected through Friday, it's a good opportunity to review the differences between heat exhaustion and heat stroke -- especially if you plan on being outside during the hottest parts of the day. Be smart. Stay safe. Know the difference.
