We Are Here — You Are Not Alone

Our community and our local schools have experienced some heartbreaking losses involving our young people. There are no easy words for the pain that families, friends, classmates, teachers, and our entire community are experiencing.

I want every young person in our community to know something very important: You are not alone, and you don’t have to face difficult times by yourself.

If you’re struggling, hurting, feeling overwhelmed, or simply need someone to talk to, please reach out. You can talk to a parent, teacher, coach, counselor, trusted friend, pastor, law enforcement officer, or another adult you trust.

You can also reach out to us at the Dora Police Department. You don’t have to be in trouble, and you don’t have to have all the answers. If you need someone to listen, we are here. If you need professional help, we will help connect you with the people and resources who can.

If you or someone you know is in crisis:

📞 Call or text 988 — Su***de & Crisis Lifeline
💻 Chat: https://988lifeline.org/chat/

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.

Parents, please talk to your kids. Ask them how they’re doing—and really listen to their answer. Sometimes simply knowing that someone cares enough to ask can make a difference.

And to our young people: Your life matters. You matter. There are people who care about you, even when it may not feel that way.

Please don’t be afraid to ask for help. There is no shame in saying, “I’m not okay.”

We are a community, and we will get through difficult times together.

We had anticipated that paving would be completed before school started tomorrow. However, due to weather it will take until tomorrow to complete the paving. Beginning at 6:30 am, there will not be access to the school from Highway 78. All traffic will need to enter through Glenn C. Gant via Sharon Boulevard.

Students will be dropped off and picked up at the entrance to the gym lobby. This will include both bus and car riders.
For the afternoon, traffic will be blocked near the baseball field. This will allow bus drivers to access the school to load the first wave of bus riders. Once they have exited, traffic will be released to load car riders.

Hopefully, this will only be for this Friday. Paving is anticipated to be completed this weekend.

Eleven years ago this month, this photo was taken at the August 2015 summer conference. This year’s conference marks my 12th conference serving as your Chief of Police.

On July 28, 2015, I was appointed as Chief of Police by Mayor Stephens. Since then, I have been honored to be reappointed by Mayor Walker and Mayor Combs, and I am grateful for the confidence each administration has placed in me.

Looking back at this photo, only two of the chiefs pictured are still serving as chiefs today. Time certainly has a way of reminding us how quickly the years pass.

I am incredibly thankful to the Mayor and City Council—past and present—for the opportunity to serve this great community. It has truly been a blessing and an honor to serve as your Chief of Police, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside our outstanding officers and the citizens of Dora.
