Miami-Dade Emergency Management Department (DEM) evolved from the Civil Defense era into a office that uses an all-hazards approach to disaster management.
The County’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP) is maintained by this office as are many programs designed to assist our communities prepare for and recover from disasters. The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated for imminent and no-notice disasters; such as hurricanes and the 2008 power outage, respectively. Our team was proud to participate in Eye of the Storm at the Museum of Discovery and Science, helping families learn about hurricane science, preparedness, and how to stay safe before, during, and after a storm.

Today, we hosted our annual Leadership Meeting, bringing together county departments to discuss preparedness for hurricane season, extreme heat, flooding, and other potential hazards.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review countywide coordination and communication efforts as preparations continue for FIFA World Cup 2026. Through collaboration, planning, and information sharing, we are working together to support public safety and help keep our community informed, prepared, and resilient.

Yesterday, participated in a FIFA World Cup Regional Multi-Agency Coordination Group briefing at PortMiami. Partners from Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe counties came together to strengthen coordination, communication, and regional readiness ahead of the World Cup.

Today, bus operators from participated in emergency evacuation training with Dan Scarborough to help prepare for emergencies and activations. These trainings help ensure transportation teams are ready to support safe and coordinated evacuations when our community needs it most.
