Today was a day filled with emotion for me as a Cuban-American, journalist, and community advocate.

Standing inside the Freedom Tower brought me back to my childhood in Cuba. I was only 10 years old when I came to the United States. My grandfather was a political prisoner, and like so many Cuban families, mine was forced to leave our island because of communism in search of freedom and a better future.

Being there today also brought back memories of covering one of the most painful stories of my journalism career 30 years ago — the Brothers to the Rescue planes being shot down and the heartbreak endured by the families of Carlos Costa, Armando Alejandre Jr., Mario de la Peña, and Pablo Morales. Seeing Raúl Castro indicted after decades was deeply emotional.

Surrounded by so many Cubans who carry the pain of exile in their hearts reminded me that the fight for freedom is far from over. The Cuban people deserve democracy, dignity, and the right to live without fear, repression, or dictatorship.

Praying for a free Cuba. 🇨🇺🙏

Doral's National Day of Prayer: 05-07-26 05/09/2026

Humbled by the kind words shared by Esperanza “Hope” Reynolds. As written in the article:

“Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of Dr. Griselle Marino. Her prayer is indicative of a woman dedicated to communicating the REAL issues throughout Miami-Dade County and the REAL problems we face as a society.”

Special thanks to Dr. Maria Hidalgo, Vice Chair for Global Innovative Foundation, Inc. (GIF) for the opportunity to pray for the healthcare community and Glenda Reoyo for inviting friends and board members. I also enjoyed sharing the stage with decades-long media colleagues and friends Sandra Peebles and Teri Arvesu.

Special prayers for Dr. Marie Etienne, President & CEO of GIF as she continues to lead in challenging time to eradicate crimes. Grateful to stand alongside so many community leaders, healthcare advocates, and people of faith during this meaningful event.

Doral's National Day of Prayer: 05-07-26 Christi Fraga, Doral's Mayor, weaves a certain magic in everything she accomplishes. She is articulate, kind, and humble.
