Our Cafeteria Circus celebration was full of fun, flavor, and a whole lot of school spirit! From nutritious meals to the amazing cafeteria teams who make it all happen, we’re celebrating the people and programs that keep our students fueled and ready to learn.

➕🧮 Math + Family Engagement = Student Success!

Heard Elementary families brought the excitement to math during their ‘Pack, Picnic, and Problem Solve’ parent engagement event through engaging, hands-on activities that made learning meaningful! Families explored strategies to support mathematics at home and partnered with their scholars to strengthen problem-solving skills.

These opportunities make learning more impactful by connecting families, educators, and students through meaningful math experiences! 🐾💙

🚨UPDATE: The Dothan City Schools Board of Education Special Called School Board Meeting originally scheduled for October 22, 2026 has been rescheduled to October 27, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.

Board of Education meetings are held at the Central Office, 1665 Honeysuckle Rd, Dothan, AL 36305.

Parents and guardians, first nine weeks report cards are out today, October 14! 📝

Students in grades K–6 will bring their report cards home, while report cards for students in grades 7–12 can be viewed in PowerSchool. Physical copies are available upon request.

The Dothan City Schools Difference Maker campaign recognizes employees nominated by someone at their school for going above and beyond for our students, schools and community.

Our next Difference Maker is Viviana Cruz Reyna, Special Education Aide at Dothan City Early Education Center! In her three years with Dothan City Schools, she has brought a love for teaching, a heart for helping children and a commitment to giving every student the best start in their education.

From teaching young learners their colors, numbers and foundational skills to helping students develop strategies for success, she is passionate about creating a positive learning experience for every child. She also goes above and beyond to support her colleagues, translate for families who speak Spanish and help ensure everyone feels welcomed, understood and supported. With a strong sense of teamwork and a family-like atmosphere among her coworkers, she knows that working together makes a difference for students.

Thank you, Ms. Cruz Reyna, for the care you show your students, the support you provide to your colleagues and the dedication you bring to helping our youngest learners succeed. We appreciate you and are proud to call you a Difference Maker! 💙🐺

🎪🍎 Step right up! It’s National School Lunch Week, October 12–16, and we’re celebrating the important role healthy school meals play in helping students learn, grow, and thrive! Nutritious meals do more than fill hungry bellies. They fuel young minds, support growing bodies, and help students be ready to learn and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

🎟️ And what better way to celebrate the “Greatest Lunch on Earth” than with a little lunchtime fun? Students will bring their “Greatest Lunch on Earth” ticket to the cafeteria each day at lunch and earn a stamp or punch when they eat a school lunch. Students who collect four punches by the end of the week will be entered into a drawing for a GRAND PRIZE!🎉🏆

From nutritious meals to memories made around the table, our school cafeterias are serving up something great every day! Thank you to our Dothan City Schools Child Nutrition Program for helping make it happen! Happy National School Lunch Week ❤️

Dothan City Schools will resume normal operations on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 following continued assessment of conditions across the city of Dothan in the aftermath of severe weather. All Dothan City Schools campuses and district offices will be open and operate on their regular schedules. School bus transportation will also resume normal operations.

District leadership has remained in communication with city officials while monitoring road conditions and other factors that could impact school operations. The safety of students and staff remains a top priority for Dothan City Schools. The district appreciates the patience and understanding of families, staff, and the community.

Dothan City Schools will be closed for all students and staff on Monday, October 12, 2026, due to severe weather impacts that have left several roads impassable throughout the area. The decision was made with the safety of students, staff and families as the district’s top priority. Current road conditions present transportation and safety concerns that prevent the district from safely resuming normal school operations.

District officials will continue working with the City of Dothan and monitoring conditions and will announce a decision regarding school operations for Tuesday, October 13, by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12. Families and staff are encouraged to monitor the district’s official communication channels, including the DCS website, mass notification system, and social media pages for updates.

Dothan City Schools appreciates the patience and understanding of our families, staff, and community as we navigate the impacts of severe weather.

Due to the potential for severe weather, Dothan High School’s varsity football game against Opelika High School, originally scheduled for Friday, October 9, at Rip Hewes Stadium has been rescheduled. The game will now be played Thursday, October 8, at Opelika High School. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets purchased through GoFan for the originally scheduled game will be honored.

The schedule change was made with the safety of student athletes, coaches, staff, and spectators in mind as weather conditions are monitored.
