🚨 124 MPH. ACTIVE SCHOOL ZONE. REFUSED TO STOP.

On yesterday, Laquavious Tequan Douglas of Waycross led deputies on a dangerous pursuit, reaching speeds of approximately 124 MPH and driving on the wrong side of the road. Today he is in jail. We don’t play that here.

“If you come to Coffee County, you better come with the right attitude and be ready to abide by the law. Otherwise, you can quickly check in for an extended stay at the Cole Inn & Suites!” - Sheriff Fred Cole

📢 STOP AND LOOK. HAVE YOU SEEN HER?

🚔 COMMUNITY HELPERS DAY | AMBROSE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Today, October 16, 2026, Sheriff Fred Cole and deputies with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office had the privilege of participating in Community Helpers Day at Ambrose Elementary School!

Our deputies joined a host of community helpers, including CRMC EMS, county fire departments, Golden Environmental LLC, Irwin EMC, and others, to introduce students to the many careers that help serve, protect, and strengthen our community.

Events like this give students an opportunity to meet the people behind these important jobs, ask questions, and explore future careers in public service. You never know which young mind you might inspire!

Sheriff Cole and our deputies were proud to be part of this special day. Thank you to Ambrose Elementary School for the invitation and to every community partner who took the time to invest in these students.

Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders, and we are proud to help them see the possibilities!

We look forward to doing it again next year! 🇺🇸

🚨 DRUGS, GUNS, AND AN ARREST IN COFFEE COUNTY!
On October 14, agents with the Douglas-Coffee Drug Unit and D.I.C.E. Unit executed a search warrant that resulted in the arrest of Duarte Woodbury. Agents seized methamphetamine, prescription pills, three fi****ms, and U.S. currency.

Chief Brannen Pruette said it best:
“Illegal drugs don’t just affect the people who possess them; their impact can reach families, neighborhoods, and the entire community. We will continue to pursue these investigations with determination and hold those responsible accountable under the law.”

Sheriff Fred Cole added, “We will continue to work together to identify and address illegal drug activity in our community. Our goal is to hold those responsible accountable and protect the safety of the citizens we serve. Drug activity will not be tolerated in Coffee County.”
Let’s be clear: protecting our community takes teamwork, commitment, and action. We will continue to pursue those who bring illegal drugs into Coffee County. This is our home, and we will stand up for it.

Integrity. Compassion. Accountability. Professionalism.

Inmate suffers serious injury during altercation
On September 24, 2026, staff with the Coffee County Jail were notified that an inmate was experiencing a medical emergency. Jail staff and medical personnel immediately responded and attempted to provide assistance.

During the response, it was determined that the inmate identified as 47 year old Charles Christian Levy had been involved in an altercation with another inmate and had sustained injuries requiring additional medical attention. Levy was transported to a trauma center for treatment.

Levy later succumbed to those injuries on October 6, 2026, while receiving medical care.

Levy’s family has been notified.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, Sheriff Fred Cole has requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an independent investigation.

No further information will be released at this time while the investigation remains ongoing.

Back in June 2026, the Sheriff’s Office was made aware of allegations of inappropriate contact with a minor. Based on circumstances surrounding these allegations; Sheriff Cole requested the GBI to conduct an independent investigation. On October 9, 2026, the GBI arrested William Jerry Minix II, 43, of Nicholls, charging him with S*xual Battery Against a Child Under 16 following their investigation.

Sheriff Fred Cole's message is clear: “Doesn’t matter who you are, where you work, or how much you contribute to this community. If you break the law or violate another person, we will investigate it and hold you accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

This investigation is still active and ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at 912-384-4227 or the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Douglas at 912-389-4103.
