As hurricane season approaches be aware that tropical storms don’t just bring heavy rain and flooding....they can also spin up fast-moving tornadoes, especially in outer rain bands. These tornadoes can form quickly with little warning, so have a shelter plan ready at home and work.
🌪️ Shelter immediately if:
• A Tornado Warning is issued for your area
• You hear tornado sirens or emergency alerts
• You see rotation, debris, or a funnel cloud
• Winds suddenly become loud or intense
• You are in a mobile home or temporary structure
🏠 Best shelter locations:
• Lowest floor possible
• Interior room away from windows
• Bathroom, hallway, or basement
• At work: designated shelter location or interior stairwell
