For years, Delaware Senate and House Republicans have warned about the consequences of retiring reliable power plants, failing to invest in new generation, and pursuing energy policies that drive up costs for families and businesses.
Now, the U.S. Department of Energy has declared an electricity reliability emergency across the PJM regional power grid, which includes Delaware. The order authorizes extraordinary measures to help prevent power outages, including allowing certain generating facilities to operate beyond normal restrictions.
This should be a wake-up call for Delaware policymakers.
We've consistently advocated for more dependable electricity generation, including natural gas and nuclear energy, while calling for a reassessment of costly policies like RGGI and Delaware's Renewable Portfolio Standard.
Delaware families deserve electricity that is both affordable and reliable. It's time to take these warnings seriously.
