Please support this great organization. There is no state agency that handles wildlife rehabilitation. We all depend on dedicated volunteers like these when we find an injured rabbit, squirrel, turtle, fox, you name it. I am going to do what I can to support them, and I hope you will too.
HELP US BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR DELAWARE WILDLIFE!
We are excited to announce the beginning of a new chapter for the DCWRE. We are currently fundraising for a wildlife center!
A long-held dream of co-founder Dawn Cox, who fondly remembers the first time she took in orphaned wildlife back in the 90s. At the time she had no idea that decades later this organization would grow and expand into a statewide network of wildlife caregivers, educators and public supporters.
We take in hundreds of animals a year and answer upwards of 3,000 calls from the public. We do this out of our homes, often spending 1000s of dollars a year to afford formula, caging, enrichment and vet care for our patients. In recent years those numbers have increased much quicker than we could comprehend. The level of development in the state has placed a strain on local wildlife populations as they lose habitat, resources and space away from human interaction.
Today, we see that our dream can no longer be just that, but something we need to make a reality.
With a center, we can handle a larger case-load of wildlife, provide dedicated medical care; we can triage: having a better system of patient management and quality care; we can conduct research and release on-site. But this center won't just benefit wildlife, but you, our community too. We can run comprehensive trainings and be an institution for collaboration, educational events, research, etc. We can offer more flexible volunteering opportunities for those who wish to rehab but have constraints on time, space and resources.
We hope you will come along with us for this journey.
