"Throughout her service to Delaware, Patti Blevins proved that strength and power could flow from kindness and mutual respect.

As a Councilwoman, then Mayor of Elsmere, and later just the second woman to lead the Senate in our State’s history, Patti proved that listening, learning, and empowering others were foundational to successful leadership.

Patti commanded respect because she showed it to others. She could be trusted with her word, and could always be counted on to do the right thing. And while she led fiercely on issues like domestic violence prevention and animal rights, she also encouraged her colleagues to lead in their areas of expertise. Similarly, she deeply trusted and respected her staff and often sought out their counsel and perspective. The result was a deep loyalty and affection from many staffers that endured well beyond her Senate service.

Serving alongside Senator Blevins was an honor, and each of us has learned so much that we’ve tried to carry forward as legislators. But there was even more to love about Patti as a friend. She was a proud mother and grandmother, a dog lover, and a baseball fan who loved her Phillies. She worked hard to make the Senate feel like a family, and today our family mourns the loss of one of the very best to ever do this work."

During our final day of special session for Senate confirmations, we honored outgoing Sen. Ray Seigfried. We thank the Senator for his fierce advocacy and commitment to taking on righteous fights during his time in the Senate.

When we learned that the commercial airline flying out of Delaware had a contract with ICE for the purpose of deportations, Sen. Seigfried led the charge in the legislature to stop them.

When we continued our work to lower health care costs for Delawareans seeking care, Sen. Seigfried used his professional experience and his voice to hold hospitals accountable to their patients.

We thank Ray for his service to our caucus, to the 5th District, and to the State.

Before starting her path towards policy and government, Sen. Elizabeth "Tizzy" Lockman received a Film degree from NYU! As a longtime lover of the arts, she has spent years advocating in communities across our state, and has now combined her two worlds to create meaningful change in Delaware.

During his address to the state at the start of the 153rd General Assembly, Gov. Matt Meyer highlighted the long-term economic opportunities that a film tax credit could bring to Delaware.

This effort has been years in the making and has spanned across multiple assemblies, but thanks to the leadership of Sen. Tizzy Lockman and Rep. Kerri Evelyn Harris, SB 324 and HB 364 were unanimously passed in both chambers. Today, legislators joined advocates, film industry professionals, and the owners of Pine Box Studios to officially sign the Delaware Entertainment Production Tax Credit into law.

Twenty five years ago, the events of September 11th made their indelible mark on the American people and forever changed the trajectory of our nation.

Today, we reflect on the sacrifices made by thousands of brave first responders who put themselves in harm’s way to protect their communities. In the years that followed, we have seen the steep toll that this day takes on the families of the victims, the survivors of the attacks, and every American who replays the moments of fear and uncertainty they felt 25 years ago.

For the growing population of young adults who were too young to remember or for the generation born after 2001, each September 11 serves as an opportunity to share memories, honor sacrifice of service, and support the physical and mental health of the first responders who keep our communities safe each and every day.

May we never forget.

Labor unions have played a pivotal role in securing fair wages, 40-hour work weeks, Social Security, safer working conditions, and the basic rights and protections that have allowed generations of working Americans to build a better life. This Labor Day, we honor the workers who built America’s middle class, and those who continue to fight to protect the dignity, opportunity, and security of working people today.

The grand opening of the NoMa Library exemplifies what is possible when we invest in the communities we serve. On Saturday, Senator Darius Brown celebrated the opening of this next-generation facility that embraces opportunity, inclusion, creativity, and connection. The NoMa Library represents a commitment to the future of Wilmington and to the people who call this community home.

Maternal mental health is making headlines once again.

Sen. Marie Pinkney was joined by U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, Gov. Matt Meyer and House Speaker Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown to attend a ceremonial bill signing of Senate Bill 301 this week at Josie’s Grace to commemorate the milestone legislation aimed at improving perinatal care and postpartum mental health.

Mirrored after the federal WELLS Act, SB 301 requires hospitals to create discharge plans for patients experiencing labor symptoms and open pathways for additional resources.
