WORKING TO KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE

On Monday September 21st Sheriff Gray, Deputy Aaron Taylor, and our friend Eddie Eagle spent the day at North Stewart Elementary School teaching the children about safety. Grades Pre-K through 5th grade were shown what to do if they come across a gun. The Eddie Eagle Program teaches children to “STOP and DO NOT TOUCH an unattended gun”, “Run away from it”, and “ Tell a grown-up.” Sheriff Gray started this program about 6 years ago and it is presented to both elementary schools yearly. The Eddie Eagle costume was obtained through a grant. Great job guys!!

The Sheriff’s Office believes in keeping the inmates busy. Our inmates are now washing school buses for the bus drivers. Bus drivers can schedule a time on Fridays and the inmates will wash and clean their bus. What a great way of giving back, plus telling our bus drivers thank you for all they do,and for taking great care of our precious cargo the future of Stewart County.

K-9’s DOING THEIR JOB!!!

The Sheriff’s Office K-9’s continue their good work for our deputies. On Friday, September 4th, at about 11:30 pm, K-9 Handler Jordon Mickle, during a traffic stop on Donelson Parkway, found that the driver had a suspended license. K-9 Deputy Mickle also, based on her actions believed that drugs may be present in the vehicle. He deployed K-9 Vainguy who indicated that drugs were present in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up 2 small baggies of methamphetamine and an ink pen that had been disassembled and contained methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia wrapped in a pair of socks and a handgun. Arrested was Kelley Angel. Great job K-9 Deputy Mickle and K-9 Vainguy.

On Wednesday September 9th, during a traffic stop on Ft. Donelson Shores at approximately 10:00 pm Cpl. Justin Bolden became suspicious that drugs were present in the vehicle. He called for a K-9 to assist and Sgt. Josh Miller arrived and deployed K-9 Toby. K-9 Toby gave a positive indication. A search of the vehicle turned up methamphetamine and ma*****na along with assorted paraphernalia. Todd Weber and Deborah Keatts were arrested. A great job by Sgt. Miller, Cpl. Bolden, and K-9 Toby. Stewart County Sheriff’s Office deputies continue to clean up our county.

FORMER INMATES TURNING THEIR LIVES AROUND

The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office offers inmates many avenues to help them turn their lives around. We offer several classes and programs for our inmates who choose to take advantage of them. One of our programs is the “Life Skills” class that was started after Sheriff Gray took office, and is taught by Brother Phil Dunn. This class has been recently spotlighted by Channel 5 News on a couple of occasions.

A big pat on the back to Kevin Grizzard and David Parr who turned their lives around and are doing great. We are proud of you, as well as other former inmates who have gotten on the right track.

For two people formerly incarcerated, they return back to the Stewart County Detention Center to share how the life skills class helped them get to where they are today
