🚒 Training Today for Tomorrow’s Emergencies! 🪢

This past week, Indian Lake firefighters focused on rope rescue training, working on knots, rope systems, and techniques used to safely rescue individuals in challenging situations.

Crews practiced setting up and operating 1:1 and 3:1 rope systems, learning how mechanical advantage can help rescuers safely move and lift individuals during rescue operations.

These skills are essential when responding to emergencies involving steep terrain, embankments, confined areas, or other situations where traditional rescue methods may not be possible.

💪 Great work by everyone who came out and put in the time to sharpen their skills!

Training like this helps ensure our firefighters are prepared when our community needs us most.

Train hard. Stay prepared. Serve with pride.

🚒 MENTAL HEALTH WELLNESS CLASS – FIRST RESPONDERS 🚒

🧠 Your Mental Health Matters!

The Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department along with Cass County Sheriff's Office Cass County 911 - Michigan is proud to host a Mental Health Wellness Class, presented by Unite The Lines Foundation.

This class is open to ALL FIRST RESPONDERS, including firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and others serving in emergency services.

As first responders, we dedicate our lives to helping others, often putting our own mental health and well-being on the back burner. This class is an opportunity to focus on YOU, learn valuable tools, and recognize the importance of taking care of ourselves and one another.

💚 It’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to ask for help.

📍 Location: Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department

⚠️ SEATING IS LIMITED!
(If we fill it we may put on second class)

📲 Scan the QR code on the flyer to register and reserve your seat!

We encourage all first responders to take advantage of this opportunity. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just starting your career, mental health is something we all need to prioritize.

We spend countless hours training to save others. Let’s make time to take care of ourselves, too.

🔥 LIVE FIRE TRAINING | VES & VICTIM REMOVAL 🔥

This past week, Indian Lake firefighters trained under live-fire conditions, focusing on VES (Vent-Enter-Search) operations on the second floor of our burn facility.

VES is a rapid search-and-rescue technique used to quickly access and search areas where victims may be located, often while fire conditions are still present and other crews are actively working to control the fire.

During these evolutions, firefighters climbed to a second-floor bedroom, entered through a window, isolated the room by closing the door, performed a rapid search, located the victim, and removed the victim through the window and down a ladder to safety.

Training under realistic conditions builds confidence, reinforces teamwork, and prepares our firefighters to make critical decisions when seconds matter.

💪 Great work to everyone who came out, put in the hard work, and pushed themselves through these evolutions!

Train hard. Stay prepared. Be ready when the community needs us.

🇺🇸 Today, We Remember. 🇺🇸

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the innocent lives taken far too soon. We remember the families whose lives were forever changed. And we remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and countless others who ran toward danger and made the ultimate sacrifice.

As first responders, we honor their memory not only by remembering what happened on 9/11, but by remembering who we became on 9/12 — a nation united. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers standing together. Americans putting differences aside and taking care of one another.

May we never forget that unity, compassion, and strength.

God bless those who sacrificed everything. God bless our first responders. And God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸

Never Forget. 9/11/2001

🔥 LIVE FIRE TRAINING 🔥

During our latest training, Indian Lake firefighters conducted live-fire training evolutions, focusing on fire attack, knocking down active fire conditions, and locating and removing a simulated victim from the second floor.

These hands-on evolutions allow our firefighters to practice critical skills under realistic fire conditions while operating in a safe, controlled training environment.

Training like this helps prepare our crews for the challenges they may face during a real emergency—building confidence, improving teamwork, and reinforcing safe and effective fireground operations.

Great work by everyone involved! 🚒🔥

Train hard. Stay prepared. Serve our community.

🥞🚒 TOMORROW — OUR LAST PANCAKE BREAKFAST OF THE YEAR! 🚒🥞

Join us tomorrow at the Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department for our final pancake breakfast of the year! Come enjoy some great food, visit with your local firefighters, and most importantly, help us support two causes that mean a great deal to our department and our community.

💛 This breakfast is about more than pancakes. It’s about supporting one another and raising awareness for su***de prevention.

This year, 100% of the profits from tomorrow’s breakfast will be split 50/50 between two important causes:

🎗️ In Memory of Firefighter Mark Herman
Half of the proceeds will be donated in Mark’s memory to Unite The Lines Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting first responders, raising awareness about su***de and mental health, and helping connect those who are struggling with the support they need. We are honored that the founder of Unite the Lines will be joining us tomorrow.

💙 In Support of the Sheteron Family
The other half of the proceeds will be donated directly to the family of Cass County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sheteron during this incredibly difficult time.

We’ll also have our Su***de Awareness shirts available for purchase, along with our new Indian Lake Fire Department shirts! 👕🚒

And don’t forget the kids! We’ll have a fire prevention smoke trailer set up along with a bounce house for them to enjoy.

Our breakfasts can get busy, so we ask everyone to please be patient with our firefighters and volunteers as we work hard to serve everyone.

Come have breakfast. Come see your local firefighters. Buy a shirt. Bring the kids. Most importantly, come together as a community and show your support.

💛 You never truly know what someone else is carrying. Su***de awareness matters. Supporting each other matters.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

💜🩵 September is Su***de Prevention & Awareness Month. 🩵💜

For those of us in the fire service and public safety, this is more than just a month on the calendar. We see people on some of the worst days of their lives—but sometimes the person struggling the most is the one standing beside us.

You matter. Your life matters. And asking for help is a sign of strength.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
• Check on your friends, family, and fellow first responders.
• Have the conversations that may be uncomfortable.
• Listen without judgment.
• Reach out when you’re struggling.
• Remind someone that they don’t have to fight their battles alone.

At Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department, su***de awareness holds a special place in our hearts. We know firsthand how devastating su***de can be to a department, a family, and an entire community.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can say is, “I need help.”
Sometimes the most important thing you can ask is, “Are you really okay?”

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

💜 Talk. Reach out. Check on your crew.
🩵 You are never alone.
🔥 Stronger Together.

Glad we could assist with this awesome training opportunity! 🚒🐾🌊

Indian Lake Fire was proud to help provide support for a specialized Bloodhound training exercise on Indian Lake. The training gave handlers and their K9 partners the opportunity to practice searching for and tracking individuals to and in the water, utilizing our divers as part of the scenarios.

These handlers and dogs are absolutely incredible! Watching these K9s work and seeing the dedication, teamwork, and skill between each dog and handler was impressive.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to work alongside other agencies, provide resources, and help make realistic training like this possible.

Great work by everyone involved! 🐾🚒🌊

🥞 PANCAKE BREAKFAST WITH A PURPOSE 🥞

Our next Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department Pancake Breakfast is quickly approaching. While these breakfasts have always been about bringing our community together, this one carries a little more meaning for all of us.

This time of year marks one year since we lost one of our own, Firefighter Mark Herman. Mark’s death by su***de left a hole in our department and served as a painful reminder of something that far too many first responders face in silence.

Su***de awareness and mental health among first responders cannot be something we are afraid to talk about.

Firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers and other first responders regularly see and experience things that most people will never have to. We are trained to show up when someone else is having the worst day of their life. What we aren’t always good at is admitting when we are struggling ourselves.

PTSD, depression, stress and su***de do not care what uniform you wear, how many years you’ve served, how tough you are or how many people you’ve helped.

Recent events have brought this reality painfully close to home again with the loss of Cass County Sheriff’s Office Detective Joseph “Joe” Sheteron. Our hearts remain with his family, friends and everyone at the Cass County Sheriff's Office Cass County 911 - Michigan as they mourn the loss of one of their own.

In Mark’s memory, we have created a limited number of Su***de Awareness shirts that will be available for purchase at our upcoming Pancake Breakfast. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Proceeds from the breakfast will be donated to Unite The Lines Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting first responders, raising su***de awareness, helping those struggling with PTSD and mental health, and connecting first responders with people who understand and are willing to listen.

We also plan to donate a portion of the proceeds from this Pancake Breakfast to Detective Sheteron’s family as they navigate an unimaginable loss.

This breakfast is about more than pancakes.

It’s about remembering Mark.

It’s about standing beside the Sheteron family and our brothers and sisters at the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

It’s about reminding every first responder that asking for help is not weakness. Talking about what you’re going through is not weakness. Checking on the person beside you matters.

Sometimes the person who is always there for everyone else needs someone to be there for them.

Come have breakfast with us, pick up one of our limited Su***de Awareness shirts, and help us support those who spend their lives supporting others.

💛 Remember Mark. Support Joe’s family. Check on your people. Start the conversation.

You never truly know what someone is carrying.
