One of the scariest things to imagine this…👻

Turning on the shower…and the tap running dry is a frightening thought, but water is too important to take for granted. Today, we pause to recognize what life would look like if the tap ran dry. No showers. No clean water for our families or communities. ⁣⁣🚿
-⁣⁣
is a day without so much more—it’s everything water touches.⁣⁣ Let’s stay reminded of how water shows up for all of us—everywhere, every day.

Innovation in action! WRD switched to a more modern low-flow groundwater sampling method for our regional sampling program in 2026. It took our skilled hydrogeologists about five months to install roughly 232,000 linear feet of tubing connected to over 350 dedicated groundwater sampling pumps with our deepest pumps set at nearly 2,900 feet.
-
This innovative sampling method significantly reduces waste, eliminates costly discharge permits, saves time spent sampling, and will result in annual cost savings of nearly $370,000. 💡
-
This is just one example of how WRD thinks outside the box to protect and preserve groundwater for residents across our service area! 👏

Happy New Water Year! 💧⁣
⁣
Did you know California’s water year runs from October 1st through September 30th – this annual reset is an important milestone for WRD’s planning.⁣
-⁣
Here in Los Angeles County, most of our rainfall typically arrives between December and March each year, making the months ahead especially important for stormwater capture and groundwater recharge. Even a few early-season storms can contribute to replenishing the Central and West Coast Basins, helping strengthen our region’s water supply and resilience.⁣
-⁣
As Water Year 2026–2027 begins, we’re looking ahead to the opportunities each storm brings and continuing our work to secure our water future today! Cheers to a safe, prosperous, and sustainable new water year! 🌧️

WRD General Manager Stephan Tucker recently had the opportunity to connect with and mentor a group of students from the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) who are pursuing careers in engineering. From sharing career insights to answering questions about the engineering field, students had the opportunity to learn directly from a leader in the water industry and gain valuable perspective on their future careers. 💧
