These grants will help make southwestern Pennsylvania a stronger, more vibrant place to live. They support good jobs, improve public spaces and parks and help us make better use of the natural assets that define our region. That’s an investment residents will be able to see and experience for years to come.

HARRISBURG, Oct. 7 – State Rep. Aerion Abney, chair of the Allegheny and Southwest House Democratic Delegation, announced today that four projects across Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania have been awarded funding through Pennsylvania’s Community Conservation Partnerships...

Applications are now being accepted for the Dr. Louis Venson Senior Lofts.

I was glad to join community members and project partners at the groundbreaking in July 2025 for this development, which is transforming the former Beltzhoover Elementary School into affordable housing for seniors. The school had been vacant for more than 20 years.

The Senior Lofts will provide affordable housing for seniors in our community while giving new life to a longtime neighborhood building.

See the flyer for application details and additional information.

My legislation would ensure that child welfare providers are not required to take on additional insurance liability, giving them relief to carry on with their critical work for the most vulnerable citizens of Pennsylvania.

Child welfare providers are facing a serious insurance crisis, with premiums rising sharply and some providers struggling to find coverage at all. We need to make sure the people and organizations caring for our children can focus on that work instead of being pushed out by insurance costs. This legislation creates a fairer approach to liability and helps protect the stability of these essential services.

HARRISBURG, Sept. 29 – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives today passed legislation sponsored by state Rep. Aerion Abney that would help child welfare providers manage insurance costs so they can afford to continue their important work.A licensed social worker, Abney said H.B. 2490...

Grateful for the bold leadership of Office of the Allegheny County Executive pushing to expand paid parental leave here in Allegheny County. Having to choose between your job and your family is a false choice and we must continue to support policies like this to improve the quality of life for working class families

Twenty-five years ago today, our nation was forever changed by the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001. On this solemn anniversary, we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives that were taken, the families and communities left to carry an unimaginable loss, and the first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances.

September 11 is a day of remembrance, but it is also a day that calls us to reflect on who we are as a people. In the days and weeks following the attacks, Americans came together in ways that transcended political parties, geography, race, faith, and background. We mourned together. We helped one another. We stood shoulder to shoulder with our neighbors, recognizing that despite our differences, we shared something far greater: a common home and a shared responsibility to one another.

That spirit of unity remains one of the most enduring lessons of September 11. Twenty-five years later, our country continues to face challenges that can sometimes make our divisions feel greater than our common ground. But this anniversary reminds us that our strength has never come from agreeing on everything. It has come from our willingness to care for one another, to serve our communities, and to recognize the dignity and humanity we share.

Today, we honor those we lost not only by remembering their names and their stories, but by carrying forward the values that brought Americans together in the aftermath of tragedy: compassion, courage, service, and a commitment to one another. We owe it to future generations to ensure that the memory of September 11 remains a reminder of what is possible when we choose solidarity over division and community over fear.

May we continue to stand together, look out for our neighbors, and work toward a Commonwealth and a country where every person knows that they belong. On this 25th anniversary, let us remember those we lost, honor those who served, support the families who continue to carry this grief, and recommit ourselves to the enduring idea that we are stronger when we stand together.

We remember. We honor. And we remain united.

As we observe Labor Day, I hope you will join me in recognizing the hardworking people whose dedication keeps our communities moving forward every day.

This holiday is an opportunity to celebrate the dignity of work and the generations of workers who fought for fair wages, safer workplaces, and the opportunity for every family to build a secure future.

I am grateful to the union members, public servants, small-business employees, healthcare workers, educators, first responders, and countless others who serve our neighbors with commitment and pride. As we enjoy the long weekend, let us recommit ourselves to ensuring that every Pennsylvanian who works hard has the chance to thrive.
