Multi jurisdictional rescue at Rock Island State Park

At 11:17am this morning units were assigned to a 70 year old female that had fallen and sustained a head injury inside Rock Island State Park. Units arrived and hiked the approximately 3/4 mile to the location while carrying necessary equipment to evacuate the patient. Mutual aid was requested from Campaign Rock Island VFD. The patient was assessed and packaged before responders began the evacuation. Responders used rope systems in two locations to provide descent control in steep areas and stairs. The patient was placed in the waiting EMS unit at 1:12pm.

Units involved were Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, Central View Volunteer Fire Department - Walling/Quebeck/Mt. Gilead, Hickory Valley Fire Department, Sparta Rescue Squad, Campaign-Rock Island Volunteer Fire Department, Rock Island State Park Rangers, and White County Ems.

Yesterday afternoon South Group units were assigned to a call of smoke in the area of Spencer Hwy at the VanBuren County line. Arriving units found three burn piles, one of which had extended outside its intended area. Crews used rakes and blowers to cut a line around the fire, while also using booster lines to extinguish areas of concern. Doyle Volunteer Fire Department and Hickory Valley Fire Department responded.

Firefighters in the Spotlight — August 2026
Firefighter Tim Lazlo

The Doyle Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) is honored to recognize Firefighter and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Tim Lazlo as our Firefighter in the Spotlight for the third quarter of 2026.

Tim always knew he wanted to serve in the fire service. From a young age and throughout adulthood, he remained determined to pursue a career dedicated to helping others. After seeing a close friend join a fire department, Tim found the encouragement he needed to begin his own journey. Today, he is a valued member of the Doyle Volunteer Fire Department and a dedicated servant to our community.

In 2022, Tim joined the Hartsville-Trousdale County Fire Department, where he served for two years. After relocating to Doyle, he joined Trousdale Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in November 2024, where he continues to serve today. He also obtained his EMT license and, just a few months after joining Trousdale EMS, completed his Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) certification.

In December 2024, Tim joined the Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, bringing with him a strong commitment to emergency response and helping others. Since joining DVFD, he has proven himself to be a dependable and dedicated member of our team. His willingness to serve has made a positive difference not only within our department, but throughout our community and surrounding areas.

Tim's dedication to serving others doesn't stop at responding to calls. He continues to attend classes and training opportunities to expand his knowledge, strengthen his skills, and further his ability to serve those in need.

The Doyle Volunteer Fire Department is proud to have Tim Lazlo as a member of our team. His steadfast dedication, loyalty, and commitment to serving others are qualities that represent the very best of the fire service. Doyle, White County, and the state of Tennessee are truly blessed to have someone like Tim willing to answer the call and serve his community.

At around 11:30pm last night South Group departments were assigned to a structure fire in Beech Lane. E1 arrived with a crew of 5 and began interior operations to contain and suppress the fire. Due to a long narrow driveway we had to shuttle personnel and equipment from the road back to the scene. A water shuttle/portable tank operation was established for water supply. We operated on scene until approximately 4am. Departments on scene were Doyle Volunteer Fire Department, BonDeCroft Volunteer Fire Department, Sparta Fire Department, Cassville Fire Department, Cherry Creek VFD, NorthEnd Volunteer Fire Department, and Hickory Valley Fire Department. Also assisting were White County EMS and White County Sheriff’s Department.

This afternoon South Group units were assigned as mutual aid to Van Buren County for an explosion with fuel pumps on fire at The Landing. A witness reported an initial “pop” with the result being the fuel pump on fire, then a second small explosion a few minutes later that launched a steel pump well cover a substantial distance into the air. First arriving units extinguished remaining fire with a dry chemical extinguisher, then used a small hand line to finish cooling underground pipe chases and smoldering material. Units from White County, Warren County, and Van Buren County responded and worked together. We are always grateful for the opportunity to help our neighbors, and for a best case outcome.
