The remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias are anticipated to hit Burke County and Drexel today. Staff are monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond. The Town has implemented new metering infrastructure and staff receive real time data about power outages and there is no need to call and report an outage unless there is a public safety risk. Remember that repairs of utilities will occur once winds and heavy rains have ceased for the safety of town personnel.

Public safety personnel are on-duty to assist in emergencies and can be contacted by dialing 911.

A Statement from the Office of Mayor Dennis A. Anthony Regarding Comments Made at the October 6 Board Meeting:

"Citizens of Drexel and Burke County;

On Tuesday night at the end of the regular board meeting, I voiced an opinion that was poorly timed and placed for my official position.

I want to commend Moondog Pizza for their measured statement when it would have been easy to escalate the situation.

Ultimately, the Drexel Scouts should conduct fundraisers in a manner and at a place they wish as long as the safety and wishes of the children and parents are respected. Mr. Jacob Anderson leads the Drexel Scouts excellently and I am proud of the example the Scouts are setting for our community.

I wish Moondog Pizza great success in the future and hope to move past this event to focus on the exciting future our elected officials, staff, and residents are building for the Town of Drexel."
