🚧 HIGHWAY 63 CLOSURE – DRUMMOND FIRE & RESCUE RESPONSE PLAN 🚒🚑
Beginning Tuesday, September 8, Highway 63 through Drummond will be closed for bridge work. The closure is expected to remain in place through September 11, although the work may be completed and the highway reopened sooner.
Drummond Fire & Rescue has been planning for this closure and has taken several proactive steps to help minimize its impact on our emergency response.
During the closure, a portion of our fire apparatus and equipment will be staged at the homes of department members on the south side of the closure. The remainder of our apparatus will stay at the fire hall and will be available to respond to emergencies on the north side.
Depending on the type and location of an emergency, additional Drummond apparatus may still need to respond from the opposite side of the closure using the local detour. This means some of our equipment could have a longer response time than normal.
For that reason, we will be relying more heavily on our neighboring mutual aid fire departments during the closure. Our mutual aid partners are an important part of the fire service every day, and we appreciate their willingness to assist us in making sure our residents and visitors continue to receive the quickest and most appropriate emergency response possible.
If you have an emergency, call 911 as you normally would. Our dispatchers, Drummond Fire & Rescue, and our neighboring departments will coordinate the appropriate response. There is nothing different the public needs to do.
We wanted our community to know that we are aware of the challenges this temporary closure creates and we have planned ahead rather than waiting for an emergency to happen.
Please use caution around the construction area, follow the posted detours, and give emergency vehicles plenty of room.
