The mission of the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is the preservation of the peace, the prevention of crime, the safe-guarding of civil rights, and the maintenance of social order with justice, equity, and freedom for all. In order to provide for peace, protection, security and freedom, members of the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office have been vested with powers and authority. The Sheriff’s Office and its members will never deviate from demonstration of total impartiality in their obedience to and enforcement of the law, in complete independence of politics, readily offering service and friendship to all members of the public without regard to social position, race, creed, color, or other characteristics. The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is irrevocably committed to the concept that the continuity and vitality of democratic ideals depend upon a law enforcement service that strictly adheres to the executive function and will never usurp the powers and authority of the judiciary in avenging individuals or the State, and is constantly aware of the sensitive balance between individual freedom and collective security.

Area residents, there is another scam going around regarding inmates that are currently incarcerated and their bond. The scammers are using scraper bots to obtain information from publicly accessible pages to contact families and request bond. We would like to remind you that the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office will never call you and ask you for bond money.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026 the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office is teaming up with Mother's Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and other agencies across Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin. Our efforts will be to enforce drunk driving related incidences to save lives. As always we encourage those to drink responsibility and to utilize Ride Share services when needed.

There is a current scam in which scammers are scraping information about arrested persons, likely from our P2C recent arrests, and demanding bond money from the arrested person’s family. Please pass the word, the Sheriff’s Office will never call you and demand bond money for inmates. Also, bonds paid at the Dubuque County Jail are only accepted in person and as cash. Anyone asking you to send money anywhere else is attempting to scam you. We do not accept gift cards, checks, bitcoin, etc. Thanks and stay safe.
